All Day The 5th Annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle
Bear Valley, CA...The 5th annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle Competition is happening at Bear Valley! It will be a day full of friends, fun, and good vibes! Registration starts at 9 am in the Sun Room with practice runs beginning at 10 am. The slopestyle competition will begin at 11 am with awesome prizes being awarded after the competition.
Cost is $20 to participate.

The Nickolay Dodov Foundation is part of a nationwide movement to educate youth and all-age winter sports enthusiasts to stay safe in winter environments. Over the last 10 winters an average of 39 people died in avalanches each winter in North America. We believe providing educational presentations of the avalanche awareness program Know Before You Go will help safe lives.

We Are Spreading the Word...

Here's what the Nickolay Dodov Foundation did in 17/18 winter season:

The Nickolay Dodov Foundation presented the avalanche awareness program Know Before You Go 11 times to more than 1500, ski/snowboard athletes, middle, high school and university students, coaches, teachers, parents and mountain enthusiasts of all ages.

The Foundation stretched its reach with presentations of the program KBYG in California.

January - Kirkwood Big Mountain Ski/Snowboard Teams and Alpine Race Teams, Mt Shasta Ski/Snowboard Teams
February - Avery Middle School, Bret Harte High School, two presentations at South Tahoe High School, Bear Valley Ski/Snowboard Teams, two presentation at Squaw Valley to Big mountain Ski/Snowboard Teams and Alpine Race Teams, Montana State University to the Backcountry Club.

The Foundation organized and supported the Fifth Annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle Event.

NDF had it first Fundraiser at Outer Aisle in Murphys, CA where they presented this year's Schmidt Award. The Schmidt Award is dedicated in the memory of Marty and Denali Schmidt. The award is given annually to an individual or organization providing snow safety awareness to the broader snow sports community through exemplary educational or management practices. Nickolay Dodov Foundation has the great pleasure to honor this year with the Schmidt Award The Utah Avalanche Center for their efforts to inform and educate the public about backcountry avalanche conditions!

NDF translated the KBYG program into the Bulgarian language then organized and supported two presentations in Bulgaria.

With the help of Karl Birkelnad, Director of The National Avalanche Center, and Georgi Georgiev, mountain guide and avalanche educator from The Free Mountains Associations helped to translate and print an Avalanche Safety brochure into Bulgarian to be distributed to the mountain resorts in Bulgaria.

NDF was honored by the Ebbetts Pass Historical Foundation and was given the 2015 Award of Excellence for our valuable contributions to the public and the Foundation's effort to bring avalanche safety awareness to the forefront through local programs and national associations providing a significant educational platforms to the ski and snowboard community for this and future generations! Thank you EPHA!

Mission...

To promote snow sports safety and awareness through educational programs and events. To encourage children and enthusiasts of all ages to safely explore the beauty of the mountains and to inspire a healthy and positive lifestyle in the light of Nickolay Dodov.

The Nickolay Dodov Foundation is a registered 501c3 Non-Profit organization.

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.

Aghanashini
Aghanashini is a documentary about a river of the Western Ghats of India that still flows in its natural course. There are no dams on the Aghanashini to change its flow, nor industry along its path to pollute its water. When 'development' is the mantra of any government in India, this silent river is holding onto its ground, nurturing the land and forests, and providing life for hundreds of thousands of people along its flow.

The Last Pig
Through this personal journey, "The Last Pig" raises crucial questions about equality, the value of compassion and the sanctity of life. Comis’ soul-bearing narrative carries us through his final year of farming pigs, the struggle to reinvent his life, and the ghosts that will haunt him forever. "The Last Pig" is a lyrical meditation on what it means to be a sentient creature with the power to kill. Deeply immersive, the film follows a pig farmer through his final year of slaughtering pigs. Through sparse, intimate musings, the farmer reveals the growing conflict of a life spent “peddling in death.”

Dug Out
Ben and James have been on several 'adventures' together, from pulling a sofa across southern England to swimming the length of a knee deep river in Dorset. Making films about their trips has become a part of the journey. They wanted to build on these journeys in their latest project but also make something about more than themselves - to capture the beauty of the landscape, the people and the wildlife they encountered would have to be more important than any distance or number of miles they could travel. It was with this in mind that they came up with the idea of DugOut, an idea as simple as the name suggests: they would travel to the Ecuadorian Amazon, live with an indigenous community, learn from them how to build a canoe, then take that canoe on a journey… The film covers the two month trip, documenting their time in the Huaorani community as they built a dugout canoe, then the journey downstream through Ecuador's Yasuni region - one of the most biodiverse areas of the world.

Blood Road
Blood Road follows the journey of ultra-endurance mountain bike athlete Rebecca Rusch and her Vietnamese riding partner, Huyen Nguyen, as they pedal 1,200 miles along the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail through the dense jungles of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Their goal: to reach the crash site and final resting place of Rebecca’s father, a U.S. Air Force pilot shot down over Laos some 40 years earlier. During this poignant voyage of self-discovery, the women push their bodies to the limit while learning more about the historic ‘Blood Road’ they’re pedaling and how the Vietnam War shaped their lives in different ways.
