All Day Mark Twain Medical Center & Soroptimist Offering FREE Cholesterol Tests During February
San Andreas, CA...As part of a continuing partnership with Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be offering FREE cholesterol tests for women in Calaveras County during American Heart Month in February. This FREE screening is also known as a lipid panel. The test measures good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides helping to identify women at greater risk of heart disease and stroke. The “Take It to Heart Program” offers the free cholesterol tests throughout February to women who live in Calaveras County. A 12 hour fast is recommended or no food after midnight, as is proof of Calaveras County residency. Women needing the FREE cholesterol screenings do not need to schedule an appointment.

Calaveras County women wanting to participate can come to the MTMC laboratory, or any one of MTMC’s Medical Centers located in Angels Camp, Arnold, Copperopolis, and Valley Springs. Vouchers can be obtained in the above listed locations as well as other healthcare providers countywide. For more information about the FREE cholesterol tests please call the MTMC Laboratory at 754-2583.

All Day "ART SPIRIT” Teen Art Show Exhibit Continues Through March 5th
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Arts Council is proud to present an art show called “Artspirit.” Artwork will be by middle school and high school students in Calaveras County. For more information, contact Calaverasarts.org or 209/754-1774. The 21st annual Calaveras student exhibition ArtSpirit will open on February 2 with a reception at Calaveras Arts Council’s Gallery Store in San Andreas. The reception, where refreshments will be served, is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. People will be encouraged to vote for their favorite artworks for peoples’ choice awards.

A popular showcase for young talent, ArtSpirit includes the art work of middle school and high school students in Calaveras County, ranging from paintings, drawings, ceramics, and photography. ArtSpirit was chosen as the title to symbolize that through art, students often feel a spirit to express their innermost feelings, whether it be rage and fear, or joy and spirituality.

This year part of the exhibition will feature artwork by students of Martha Wallace. Wallace, a popular watercolor teacher in Calaveras County, passed away in late 2017. She touched the lives of many kids through art, and they are pleased to have this opportunity to remember her.

Calaveras Arts Council has been assisting local schools for over two decades with its Arts in Education program which provides a wide range of visual and performing arts workshops and assemblies.

The exhibit provides the public with the rare opportunity to observe and purchase art created by the county’s many very talented teens.

The public is welcome to view the show during regular gallery hours, Monday –Thursday from 11:00am to 5:00pm; call for hours Friday and Saturday. The show closes on March 5. The gallery is located at 22 Main, San Andreas.

Art show dates: February 2 – March 5
Opening reception Friday February 2, 2018 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Closing reception Friday March 2, 2018 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
