11:30 AM Arnold SIR Meeting on February 15, 2011
On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 11:30 AM SIR (Sons in Retirement ) will hold its monthly Luncheon Meeting at Snow Flake Lodge, 225 Blue Lake Springs Drive, Arnold.

01:00 PM - 05:00 PM Tourism Promotion Workshop
The Calaveras Visitors Bureau is hosting a Tourism Promotion Workshop on Tuesday, February 15th from 1pm-5pm at the Frogeteria at Frogtown in Angels Camp. Preceding the sessions will be a brief Calaveras Visitors Bureau membership meeting and a vote on the organization’s bylaws. The first session will be on social media marketing with an emphasis on Facebook. Local social media marketing guru, Jeff Stai, will be leading the session. The second session will focus on review websites, like TripAdvisor and Yelp and why businesses shouldn’t be afraid of these sites, but embrace them! The third session will be on cooperative marketing. Representatives from VIA Magazine as well as the Gold Country Visitors Association will be on hand to discuss what cooperative marketing is and how it has worked for promoting tourism in Calaveras County.

“We surveyed our members to see if they wanted us to put on workshops and if so, what kind of workshops. The upcoming Tourism Promotion Workshop is in direct response to what our members wanted,” stated Lisa Mayo, Executive Director for the Calaveras Visitors Bureau.

Cost for the workshop is just $10 and is open to the public. Laptops are encouraged. You need not be a member of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau to attend. Reserve your space by calling the Calaveras Visitors Center at 736-0049.

A county-wide public forum discussing regional economic development with USDA Rural Development State director Dr. Glenda Humiston, in partnership with the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Sonora City Hall’s City Council Chambers located at 94 N. Washington St, Sonora.

Similar forums will be held in each of the state's 58 counties and focus on activities and initiatives that resulted from USDA Rural Development's "Jobs, Economic Development and Sustainable Communities" report (available online at www.rurdev.usda.gov/ca).....

If water is “the new gold” of our generation you will want to join a public discussion on the outlook for water in Tuolumne County. The “Tuolumne County Range Water Forum: Snow Melt to Water Tap” will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sonora Opera Hall at 250 South Washington Street downtown Sonora. The focus will be on water as it relates to livestock use, range management and public health. Scientist from UCD will be on hand to present data from a water quality study done with USFS Region 5, on the Stanislaus Forest watershed.....


Speakers from the University California at Davis, Dr. Rob Atwill and Dr. Ken Tate will join Tuolumne Utilities District’s Engineer Tom Scesa to update the general public, elected officials, and water agency directors on this important topic.
