All Day Arts-In-Corrections Art Show at Columbia College Through March 28, 2019
Jamestown, CA...Artworks by California inmates at Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) will be on display at Columbia College in Sonora through March 28, 2019. The show, “Artistic Realms,” features 100 acrylic paintings on display and for sale in the college’s Manzanita Building. The artworks were created by students in the William James Association’s Prison Arts Project class taught at SCC. The course is made possible by a contract through California Arts in Corrections, a partnership between the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council. Arts in Corrections programs are evidence-based courses that reduce recidivism through structured instruction of visual, performing and literary arts.

The free exhibit is available for public viewing from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Columbia College is located at 11600 Columbia College Drive.

Bids on artworks will be taken via silent auction through 4 p.m. on March 27. Proceeds from the sales of the artwork will go to two non-profit organizations — Columbia College Foundation Art Scholarship and Columbia College Student Food Bank.

Paintings include landscapes, birds, animals, underwater fish, planets and abstract works. Many of the wooden picture frames that adorn the paintings were made by the vocational carpentry program at SCC, supervised by instructor Randy Bland.

Stacy Hay, a retired correctional officer and local artist, leads the arts course. Hay said the classes are a valuable rehabilitative program.

“The process of creativity opens the mind and the human spirit. It teaches self-discipline and problem solving,” Hay said. “These arts programs are proven to decrease institutional tensions, and lower recidivism rates. Most of these students are getting out of prison and could be your neighbors. This art exhibition gives them a way to give back to our local community.”

06:00 PM Freak Show Friday Open Mic Night at the Metropolitan
San Andreas, CA...The second friday of each month we will typically host freak show friday. Open Mic Night – artists, musicians, poets of all genres welcome! All ages welcome! 6:00 – 10:00 pm. The restaurant will be open till 9:00. (Friday) 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. The Metropolitan Theater, 59 Main Street San Andreas, CA 95249 209-754-5555

In 1994, Cyndie Hoffman (Klorer) was involved in her first theatrical production out of high school at the historic Metropolitan Theater in San Andreas. Once bitten by the theater bug, she was smitten. Not only with the art of theater, but with the beautiful facility at 59 Main Street in San Andreas. For many years to come, Cyndie would dream of running a theater of her own.

In the meantime, Benjamin Klorer, a young man in Germany was running a kiosk, which consisted of a bar, restaurant, mini golf course, small lake, and volley ball court. Who could have ever known that in 2012 the two would meet and start a partnership that would lead to Fourth Wall Entertainment Troupe conducting business at the Metropolitan in San Andreas, California?

Cyndie has over 30 years experience in theater arts and is certified in Arts Management through UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business in association with the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Benjamin majored in business in Germany and is a Merchant of Wholesale and Trade. It only made sense for the two to join forces, not only in marriage, but in business!

Together they began a journey to bring some culture to their little town in the foothills. A vision was born:

Fourth Wall Entertainment Troupe provides interactive theatrical experiences by producing quality entertainment through drama, dance, music, comedy and culture. We endeavor to support our community and enlighten audiences with whimsical live theatre.

Ben and Cyndie had a dream, and are making it come true! Part of their mission is to support local businesses by employing local artists, serving local wines, hiring local staff, encouraging local artists, and cultivating knowledge of local history. They hope to bring patronage to our community from all over California. The restaurant at The Metropolitan is open Monday through Friday, 11:30 am - 4:00 pm. Fourth Wall Entertainment Troupe events are on the weekends.

07:00 PM “The Whipping Man” at Murphys Creek Theatre Extended
Murphys, CA...Extended by one more night! Tell your friends. Bring your neighbor. See this play. Call for more information or visit our website at 209-728-8422 or www.murphyscreektheatre.org. "I just saw “The Whipping Man” at Murphys Theatre and want to urge anyone who loves theater to rush out and go see one of its last four performances. Well written, with thoughtful and emotional content, and superb acting all around, I left the theater unable to speak. I hope you don’t miss it." Stefani Reichle, Jamestown

The story unfolds against the background of their lives together before the war and secrets are revealed. We wept several times and can’t wait to see it again. At the resurgent Murphys Creek Theatre Company, a great gift to this community.
