With spring in full bloom, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is offering special Wildflower Train Rides on two Saturday afternoons only! Guests will enjoy a unique train ride experience behind the “Movie Star Locomotive” Sierra No. 3 as they treat their eyes to beautiful wildflowers! And, prior to boarding, passengers will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with wildflowers of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Then, along the six-mile, one-hour train ride through the scenic Gold Country, guests will encounter meadows and rolling hills, with such flora as “meadow foam,” “gold fields” and other colorful flowers typically in bloom. Plus, guests are even able to take wildflower seeds home to spread for themselves! Advance reservations are suggested and tickets are available now for online purchase at www.railtown1897.org.

About Railtown 1897 State Historic Park
Operated by California State Parks with assistance from the nonprofit California State Railroad Museum Foundation, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers year-round tours plus train rides weekends April-October (selected dates only November-December). Known as “The Movie Railroad,” the Park and its trains have been featured in hundreds of feature films, TV shows, and commercials. The Park is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Reservoir Road in Jamestown, reached by highways 49/108. The next monthly meeting of the Calaveras County Garden Club will be on March 13, 2013 at Camps Restaurnt, Greenhorn Creek, 711 McCauley Ranch Rd., Angels Camp.

The speaker is Jan Acocks from Valley Springs and she will present "Birds,Bug, and Bat Houses".
She will teach how to properly use unique houses created by Jan and her husband. It will be a good opportunity to spruce up your yard for spring. Jan will have inventory for sale.

Social hour begins at 10:00 A.M. The meeting will begin at 10:30 A.M. followed by the speaker and
lunch.

Come and join the businesses that are located around Thorpe Plaza in Murphys for a weekend of fun events and activities. Along with Marisolio (celebrating our 3rd birthday), Atman Meal Arts, Art on Main, Inner Balance Sports Chiropractic, Sanctuary Spa, and Back Country Pictures will all offer activities for the entire family. We will have musical entertainment both days: Blue Suede Shoes and Sammi Leverone. Do come by and sample some food, listen to some great music and share our celebration.
10:00 AM Weekend Steam-Powered Excursion Train Rides
All aboard as Railtown 1897 State Historic Park resumes its popular steam-powered excursion train rides through California’s scenic Gold Country! While the Park is open daily, on weekends beginning April 6, guests will enjoy a memorable six-mile, 45-minute round trip ride along the rails of the famous “Movie Railroad.” To kick off the new season, excursion train rides will be offered behind “Movie Star Locomotive” Sierra No. 3 on opening weekend. Plus, local residents from Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties can visit the Park and ride completely free with proof of residency this first weekend only. And, Railtown 1897 visitors can also enjoy other opening weekend festivities such as live music, tours of the historic Roundhouse and demonstrations of the historic, belt-driven machine shop. Capacity is limited for steam-powered excursion train rides so guests are encouraged to arrive early. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the ticket window beginning at 10 a.m. on the days the trains are running. After opening weekend, Railtown 1897 SHP plans to offer steam-powered excursion train rides behind Sierra No. 3 on Saturdays and vintage diesel locomotives on Sundays through the 2013 operating season. Additionally, diesel train rides will be offered on Wednesdays throughout the summer season (July 10 through August 28).
