The Italian Benevolent Society is the oldest independent Italian Club in the United States. Our club has been in continuous operation for the past 135 years.

The club hosts an Annual picnic and parade the first Sunday’s weekend in June. We have an 8500 square foot recreation hall and 20 acre grounds. Our facility is available for rent and catered events and we offer booth rental space at our Picnic Grounds in June.

05:30 PM First Fridays in the Park Kicks Off with Brian Jirka and The Cabby Band
Murphys, CA...Brian Jirka and the Cabby Band will blend their stylish creations of pop, rock and soul into a unique experience for the whole family when they kick off the Murphys Community Club’s popular First Fridays in the Park series on Friday, June 1, 5:30 p.m. From June to September, First Friday in the Park will feature performances by a variety of musical groups playing in the familiar gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America gathering in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park. Food and beverages will be available to purchase and each event will have a community sponsor. Murphys Pour House and Murphys Irish Pub are the June sponsors.

Brian Jirka, whose hometown is Murphys, has been playing music nearly his entire life. He toured extensively with the band Last Caravan, and also opened for legendary groups like Foreigner, and Robby Krieger of the Doors, among others. When he created his own band he named it after his alter ego, Cabby.

“I like to think of it as a metaphor for taking people where they need to go musically,” he says. “Like I’m their cab driver I guess.”

For a long time the band was comprised of pick-up musicians. Jirka now has solid core including Jeff Logoteta on drums, Steve Hilton on keyboards, Madrid on guitar and Ras Beeken Dan on sax and flute.

“I play bass and sing,” says Jirka. “We play a wide variety of timeless tunes that everyone seems to know and love, as well as some of my original material.”

Beginning at 4 p.m. music lovers can purchase food from Pizza B. Good, which will be prepared on site, or from the La Esperanza Taco Truck, bring it back to their chairs or blanket and enjoy the concert. There will be a featured local wine, beer and other beverages for sale at “The Hut”. All proceeds will go to maintaining and improving the park.

There is no admission charge and ample free parking is available nearby. Donations to help maintain the park are always gratefully received.

Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information, call 728-8093, or click on the Community Club link at visitmurphys.com.
