06:00 PM - 09:00 PM Hovey 2015 Chardonnay Release Party
Murphys, CA...We are pleased to announce the arrival of the 2015 Chardonnay, quite possibly the best vintage of this wine to be released. Due to the drought, there was a very small crop and as a result the fruit had an intense flavor. The grapes in the Hovey 2015 Chardonnay come from two of the preeminent Chardonnay vineyards in Calaveras, Shaw Ranch, now farmed by the Rorick Family and Gay Callen’s vineyards on Dog Town Road. Chuck has worked these vineyards for over 25 years and knows the grapes well.

hoveychard
They were crushed, destemmed and placed into stainless steel. After fermentation, they are racked in French oak, stirred weekly and keep in a cold cellar which resulting in only a partial malolactic fermentation leaving the great natural acidity intact. The resulting wine is full of ripe pear and apple flavors, creamy and rich. “I can’t wait to open this up with some grilled sea bass,” says Chuck Hovey. “This is a traditional Hovey Chardonnay, get it while you can because it’s not going to last.”

Please join us on Saturday, July 30 when the wine is released to the public at our Chardonnay Release Party beginning at 6 o’clock. Lila and Sage Catering will be preparing a special dinner to complement Chuck beautiful Chardonnay. Advance tickets required either from the tasting room, 209-728-9999 or online at www.hoveywine.com.

THE BAND

Scott has worked as a drummer and percussionist in the Central Valley and beyond in a wide variety of styles and formats for many years. Adding to the backline of dozens of performing groups, he enjoys the eclectic repertoire that Cantamos embraces, and brings extensive experience playing jazz, pop, Latin, rock, reggae and more into the mix. He remains a fan and student of the nearly lost art of brushwork on the drum set.

Jerry was born into a musical family in Richland, Washington and began playing piano at age 5. He has toured professionally in bands that played Rock, Funk, and Jazz music, and has been a solo performer at Brookside Country Club in Stockton where he resided for many years. Jerry's easy-going personality, enormous talent, and vast repertoire have been a welcome addition to Cantamos since 2010.

Ron has been on the Calaveras County music scene for over 30 years. He is in much demand here in the foothills and beyond as a bandleader, musician, event organizer, and sound technician. Ron plays everything from Rock to Bach. His favorite genre is Latin music as the rhythms are so rich and colorful. As a performer, Ron’s energy and enthusiasm are very contagious.

Michela Macfarlane maintains an active and colorful musical lifestyle. After ten years steeped in baroque music, she delights in singing within the realms of jazz, pop, and Latin sounds of Cantamos. To further expand her interest in multiple languages and genres, Michela joined San Francisco's 15-voiced woman's ensemble Musae in 2010. She attributes her vocal flexibility to her experiences with the methods of Feldenkrais® and Estill Voice Training™, not to mention raising her two spirited little boys.

Fred is an Ohio native who visited California in 1976 and decided to stay. His lifelong interest in music has led him to discover the guitar over and over again, whether it is delving into James Taylor's acoustic fingerstyle, Chet Atkins twang, or the rocking Latin finesse of Carlos Santana. Fred also understands the interplay between voice and instrument that audiences have come to expect from Cantamos, and enjoys singing with gifted vocalists like Michela Macfarlane.
07:00 PM Jazz Violinist Mads Tolling, Saturday, 7:00 PM At Bear Valley Music Festival
Bear Valley, CA...World-famous jazz violinist Mads Tolling presents a concert with his acclaimed trio and with the Bear Valley Symphony Orchestra. To round out the evening, the orchestra performs Rossini’s “Journey to Reims” Overture (Il viaggio a Reims).

7-30-2016
Mads Tolling is a two-time Grammy Award-Winner. As a former nine year member of both Turtle Island Quartet and bassist Stanley Clarke’s band, Mads has spent most his professional life touring internationally. Since 2007 Mads has lead his own group, Mads Tolling Quartet. “The Playmaker” released in the fall of 2009, features Stanley Clarke and jazz greats Russell Ferrante & Stefon Harris. A brand new MTQ album: “Celebrating Jean-Luc Ponty – Live at Yoshi’s” was released in May, 2012. Mads has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, and his recordings have received rave reviews in Downbeat Magazine, Strings Magazine, Washington Post & San Francisco Chronicle. 07:00 PM "As You Like It" at Brice Station Vineyards
Murphys, CA...In their second season, resident theatre company Shakespeare on the Vine will present William Shakespeare’s comedic romance As You Like It at Brice Station Vineyards. This summer, Director, Tara Kayton will transform the hilltop at Brice Station into a sultry French cabaret with multiple stages. Kayton’s As You Like It is visually inspired by the French painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec; represented in the production’s costumes and scenery. The show will feature new and returning actors, live music, can-can dancing, and Shakespeare’s iconic words: “All the world’s a stage… And all the men and women merely players…”

Last summer’s successful production of The Taming of the Shrew helped the venue garner both the 2015 Calaveras Visitor’s Bureau’s Innovations in Tourism Awards for Most Innovative Attraction and Most Innovative Business. Brice Station Vineyards award winning wine will be available for purchase at 5:00pm along with on-site catering. The production runs July 29 thru August 27th Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:00pm.

The play’s central heroine and protagonist Rosalind is played by the talented and engaging, Candice Goodman. Rosalind is the daughter of the exiled Duchess Senior and niece to her usurping sister Duchess Frederick both wonderfully played by Charlene West. Candice is accompanied and complimented well by her dry witted cousin Celia, Alia Camille Ledford. The charming Brandon Lancaster plays the gentle and handsome male protagonist Orlando juxtaposed by evil sister Olive played with ease and brilliant dark comedy from Elyse Sharp. The observant and melancholy Jaques is played soundly by local favorite, Sheila Doyle with simple philosophies echoed by Ross Aldrich as Corin. The clowning Touchstone, Jason “Clocky” McDowell and his dim-witted love interest Audrey, Emily C. Wilson bring levity and physical comedy to the show while the hilarious chase scenes between the love-struck Silvius, Sean M. Lewis and beautiful cabaret singer Pheobe, Lillian McLeod will leave you laughing all evening. The music director and composer, Jeremiah Heath and fellow musicians, Holly Johnston and Emeld Ross Hampton serenade the entire play with wonderful French folk music tailored for the show with Shakespeare’s lyrics. The god-like character Hymen, will be represented as the absinthe green fairy from the beautiful Brittany Kleinschnitz. Actors often double to play cabaret can-can dancers, servants and people of the court, and

comedic patrons of the cabaret. The artistic collaborators: dramaturg, Ryan M. Davis, assistant director, Janet Cunningham, costumes, Ann Mazzaferro, scenery, Rachel Adsit Lowing & Alex Stoicheff, fight choreographer, Amber Rack, technical direction & lighting design, Ross Aldrich, production manager, Jack D.
