All Day Family Day at Calaveras Big Trees State Park
On Saturday, August 16, 2014, Calaveras Big Tree State Park will hold its annual Family Day event. Designed for the whole family to enjoy, featured activates include Live Birds of Prey, Reptiles from all over California, meet the Ranger, Smokey Bear, Cocked Hat Bowling, Carriage Rides ($3.00), Live Music and much much more. Food sales include a barbeque, Ice Cream, Popcorn and Baked goods.

Come join us for a great day of Family Fun.
All Day FREE Scout Activity Day
Boy Scout Troop 302 recently collected over 30 bags of garbage out of the Jenny Lind Veteran's Graveyard, filled over 20 deep holes illegally dug by the river into Lake Hogan, and just gravelled the Calaveras Highschool. Please remember, when you support Boy Scout Troop 302, you become part of a team that "Helps Restore California Today and Create Leaders for Tomorrow!"

Come join Boy Scout Troop 302 for a free fun-filled activity day including snow cones,rock walls, tomahawk throwing and lots of other free activities. Everyone is invited!

Learn about Boy Scout Troop 302 exciting trips such as igloo camping, sleeping under the Golden Gate Bridge and more! Parents, come find out about eating gourmet food in the wild while helping restore California.

Many scout booths may be there, including: Girl Scouts, Search and Rescue, Venture Crew, Sheriff and Fire Department and Rangers. Everyone is invited!

09:00 AM Identifying and Solving Tree Problems
On August 16 Amador County Master Gardeners will be offering a class that will help you learn how to identify Amador's native conifers, oaks and madrones. Speakers will discuss pertinent diseases and pests of importance. They will also talk about treatments that could possibly help with these symptoms. You will also learn how to recognize signs of hazardous trees and how to address them as well as the basics about working around trees and how to avoid damage.

You are encouraged to bring photos and/or specimens to this class.

This free class will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Amador County GSA Building, 12200-B Airport Road Jackson/Martell. If you have any questions call the Master Gardeners from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday at 223-6838 or e-mail mgamador@ucdavis.edu.

A fun filled day for the whole family in the North Grove area of the Park. 07:00 PM Celebrate Smokey Bear’s 70th Birthday at Lake Alpine
Sonora, Calif., (August 11, 2014)…Meet Smokey Bear, learn about wildland firefighters and participate in a fun quiz show at the Stanislaus National Forest Lake Alpine Amphitheater, August 16th from 7- 8 p.m.



The Lake Alpine Amphitheater is located at the Marmot Picnic Area, off Highway 4, at Lake Alpine. Attendees are encouraged to dress warm and bring a flashlight.



Come and celebrate Smokey Bear’s 70th birthday. Learn about wildland firefighters, and hear fire line tales. Participate in an interactive quiz game and test your fire prevention knowledge. Winners of the game will be awarded special “Smokey” prizes.



Interpreter Patrick Karnahan will share Smokey’s story- from Smokey’s start as a burned bear cub to becoming a wildfire prevention national icon. Guests will have the opportunity to learn Smokey songs, followed by a Smokey guest appearance.



This event is sponsored by Three Forest Interpretive Association and the U.S. Forest Service.
