10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.

About Habitat for Humanity Calaveras

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras seeks to bring people together to build affordable homes for families in need. In addition to building new homes we also offer a home repair program that provides people with existing homes the opportunity to upgrade or repair their homes to make them stronger and safer. We offer a “hand up” not a “hand out” to encourage hope by strengthening the community in which we live.

A world where everyone has a decent place to live. Where neighborhoods are revitalized into vibrant, safe and inviting places for current and future residents. This happens through the hard work of engaged citizens, partnerships with civic and business groups to generate a renewed community spirit.

OUR MISSION
To build and repair affordable homes for families in need.

OUR HISTORY
Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976 founded on Christian principles. Habitat for Humanity Calaveras has been serving Calaveras County since 1996. Since then we have built 16 houses and repaired hundreds of homes – all in Calaveras County.

Today the organization has a six member staff, a ReStore home improvement thrift store and we are actively building and repairing homes throughout Calaveras County. We are governed by a Board of Directors. There are selection and support committees made up of local residents who select Habitat homebuyers and walk them through the home buying process. We welcome and use volunteers from the community to implement our programs.

We are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization. Habitat for Humanity Calaveras is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through constructing affordable homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families become self-reliant and successful homeowners.

07:00 PM Toby Keith – That’s Country Bro! Tour with Ned LeDoux at Ironstone August 24th
Murphys, CA...Toby’s coming back! Always a great time! He’s bringing Ned LeDoux with him. Ned is carrying on his father’s musical legacy. This is going to be a fantastic night at Ironstone! NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Singer, songwriter and entertainer Toby Keith kicks off another leg of Toby Keith That's Country Bro! Tour The single from which the trek gets its name bowed May 3 across all radio, streaming and digital platforms. Written by Keith and longtime collaborator Bobby Pinson, "That's Country Bro" is a quick sprint down a country icon heritage trail carved out and delivered with the kind of wit and polish that led to Keith being a 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. Toby also co-produced the track with Pinson and Reid Shippen; Arturo Buenahora is executive producer.

The single is Keith's first new music since his acclaimed "Don't Let The Old Man In," featured in last year's Clint Eastwood film "The Mule." The tour follows last year's Toby Keith Should've Been A Cowboy Tour XXV, which was at the center of a multi-faceted celebration of the 25-year anniversary of his debut No. 1 smash "Should've Been A Cowboy."

The familiar maxim of the triple threat – singer, songwriter, musician – doesn’t begin to cover it for Toby Keith, one of the modern era’s most complete self-directed hit makers. And Keith’s most recent months are a remarkably accurate representation of his entire career. At the close of 2018, he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his debut No. 1 single, “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” with the re-release of his debut album (remastered with the addition of three vault tracks), a week of events in Nashville including a BMI event to commemorate the milestone, two shows at the historic Grand Ole Opry, and a performance at the Nashville Symphony Ball where he received the prestigious Harmony Award. Keith also released a new song, “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” which was inspired by a conversation he had with Clint Eastwood and was later featured in Eastwood’s movie, “The Mule.” Rounding out the year full of music-related accomplishments was his 15th Annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic which raised more than $1 million, bringing the annual event’s total funds raised to $12.4 million, to support the charitable endeavors of The Toby Keith Foundation which includes aiding sick children and their families in Oklahoma.

Opening for Toby is Ned LeDoux. In country music, a last name like LeDoux casts a big, storied and bittersweet shadow, but it’s one Ned LeDoux doesn’t mind standing in one bit. Having been a drummer in his dad Chris’ band Western Underground since 1998, Ned knew from an early age that he had “no plan b” but to play music, “Once I got the taste of the road and being in front of a crowd and just the sound of it, it was…freedom.”

When his dad passed away in 2005, Ned continued to tour with his father’s band to keep the musical spirit of Chris LeDoux alive. This drove him to pick up the guitar and try his hand at some of his dad’s songs. It started with “Rodeo Man,” and before long Ned had a whole catalog of his father’s early hits ready to play. When the other band members heard Ned’s voice, he found himself front and center singing at the shows. Stepping out from behind the drums stirred something inside of Ned that he hadn’t felt before, “It’s a different kind of rush, getting up with a guitar and standing behind a microphone…shoot I’m getting butterflies thinking about it right now.
