08:30 AM - 12:00 PM Arnold Rim Trail (ART) Volunteer Trail Work Day
Arnold, CA...All trail buildling mornings follow this pattern: Please meet at the US Forest Service Station in Hathaway Pines at 8:30 am. After a brief safety orientation by Jeffery Hilson, our Stanislaus Forest Service Trail Manager, we will car pool to the section of trail we will work that day.

Since it often gets warm as the morning progresses, please bring layers, gloves, hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, and water. Long pants are suggested as we encounter Poison Oak on occasion. If you have a favorite garden tool like loppers, bring those, but we will have tools for everyone.

Folks from eight to eighty-eight are invited; children should have adult supervision. We wrap up by noon, sometimes a little earlier. If you have another obligation that day, feel free to depart sooner as needed.

Volunteer Trail Building Mornings happen the third Saturday of each month from May through October

(Saturday) 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

09:30 AM - 04:00 PM Evan Walker Memrorial Poker Run
Sonora, CA...The 3rd annual Evan Walker Memorial Poker Run will be held September 15, 2018 at the Sonora Moose Lodge #2183 to raise funds for special education programs in Tuolumne and Calaveras County schools. To date the run has donated $7500.00 to local schools for their special education programs and needs.

Currently 50.2% of Calaveras County school children are recipients of free or assisted lunch and bussing programs, with Tuolumne County children right behind at 46.3%. Programs are being cut left and right for extracurricular activities such as music and art, but when budget cuts hit sometimes those who need extra help the most pay the price, especially when special education programs are cut or reduced due to lack of funding.

The run is named after Evan Walker, a one-time student at both Soulsbyville Elementary and Summerville High School who suffered for years with ADD. Expelled from multiple schools before his 8th birthday while attending Soulsbyville Elementary he was finally diagnosed with ADD and placed on life changing medication. He excelled in school and sports and was on the fast track to NASCAR fame as a west coast legend car racing champion.

At the age of 19 he and his best friend decided to join the United States Army and serve their great nation. At the time he was told that he may not qualify to serve if he was on any medications. Unbeknownst to his parents he stopped taking his medication and subsequently made an irrational decision that took his life.

Evan Walker passed away September 13, 2003 as a result of a high speed motorcycle accident. His family does not want this to happen to any other parent.

The family’s wish is that parents with children in Tuolumne and Calaveras County schools who may have questions or concerns about ADD of ADHD have not only access to an education for their child but also access to information to help guide them.

Poker run registration begins at 9:30, kick stands up at 10:30. The route travels through Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and ends back at the Moose Lodge with food, fun and great tunes provided by the Rusty Rockers.
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.

Here in Vallecito dreams have always been big… so has the Irish influence.

First to hit the area were the Murphy boys back in 1849. John and Daniel came looking for gold and found it

One hundred and fifty years later we discovered it here too. I am Russell Irish of Irish Vineyards. Our gold comes in liquid form, and unlike those 19th century mining Murphys we are delighted to share our riches with everyone.

A renegade spirit pulses through our award winning wines.

Making wine since before he was old enough to drink it Russell’s dedication is discernible through every sip. Never losing the integrity of the wine he always pushes the limits of viticulture. With both estate grown grapes and those grown to our specifications he has created such mouth welcoming joys as Alacant Bouchet and Chenin Blanc.

We also guarantee you will taste much more.

Whatever the varietals from our Petite Sirah to the Pog Mo Thoin our sense of fun and family permeates in each bottle.

For us there is no snob appeal in our wines. Instead we think of them as elixirs to the good life.

The wines from Irish Vineyards add a fluid celebration to any occasion.

Come share the wealth with us! Join us to experience the finest in Calaveras Wines. Here at Irish Vineyards, we hand-craft outstanding and award-winning wines; an assortment of reds and whites.
