All Day Columbia Fiddle and Bango Contest and Chili Cook-off
Columbia, CA...The Columbia Chamber of Commerce will hold the 31st Annual Fiddle and Bango* Contest on Saturday, October 5th, 2013, at the Gazebo in downtown Columbia. This year's event is dedicated to the memory of Ron DeLacy, much beloved long-time resident of the community. Known for his irreverent wit and wry compositions for music group Doodoo Wah, Ron participated in numerous Fiddle and Bango festivities. Now deceased at the age of 69, he will be sorely missed. A commemorative shirt bearing Ron's likeness will be available at the event.

To participate in the contest, sign-ups will begin at 9:00am and space is limited so contestants should arrive early. Entry fee is $12. There will be six categories in the contest: Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo, Mandolin, Vocal, and Miscellaneous. Winners in each category will receive $50 and a chance to take the grand prize of a gold nugget. Runners-up will receive $25, and third place receives free entry to next year's contest. The contest will run from 10:30am-4:30pm and is limited to acoustic instruments only. This is an open contest and professionals, amateurs, adults and children will all compete against each other. Musicians will be judged on pitch, rhythm, musicianship and technique. This event is free to the public so bring a lawn chair and sunscreen to enjoy the music all day!

In addition to the Fiddle and Bango contest, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting a Chili Cook-off. This contest is limited to the first 20 entries, including restaurants and home cookers alike. The entry fee is $20 and the fee to taste is $5 per person. Please contact the Chamber at (209) 536-1672 for more information or to enter your famous chili in the contest.
*Bango was accidently misspelled during the first year of the contest and the event continues the tradition still today.
All Day Calaveras Grape Stomp

Calaveras Grape Stomp Celebrates 20th Anniversary

STOMP TEAMS STILL AVAILABLE! Reserve your stomp time.
Don’t wait!

Interested in being part of the Calaveras Grape Stomp history? Reserve your team and celebrate one of the most anticipated events in the region, drawing large, loud crowds and scores of stomp teams, many festooned in original costume.

Last year, besides partaking of the usual great food, wine, great silent auction, and kid's activities, Stomp goers witnessed another fierce competition between teams vying for the title of the Calaveras Grape Stomp Champion. Stomp Teams are composed of two persons, one inside a half barrel filled with 25 pounds of grapes, another outside the barrel reaching in to ensure a smooth flow of juice out the drain spot. It's a sticky business for all concerned. All this fun for only $50 per team.

The results are weighed and heat winners and wildcard teams advance to the championship rounds.

The Winery Stomp will be held at 11:00. This is your chance to see Wineries compete for the President's Trophy.

It's a great day for the family. At the same time the Calaveras Grape Stomp is on, the Gold Rush Street Faire is happening, with over 100 quality vendors of all sorts stretching from one end of Main Street to the other. Food, art, crafts, knick-knacks of every description – it will all be there.

Make plans now to visit Murphys October 5 and be there for all the fun, excitement, food, wine, and a great silent auction this year.
