All Day Murphys Dia de Los Muertos is Here
Murphys, CA...Celebrate the Day of the Dead in the Land of the Skulls on November 4, 202 3in Murphys, CA. Join us for our annual celebration of those who have passed on but are with us in memory and spirit on this Day. Local businesses will display ofrendas, we’ll have artisan vendors, food, drinks, the community altar, and entertainment in our beautiful Community Park along the banks of Murphys Creek from 11-5. The event will end with a blessing of the items left on the community altar at around 5:15 pm. Check out our Day of the Dead page for more information. That page will be continually updated as more information is available.

This is a family-friendly event, and we welcome your children.  The park will host dancers, musicians, and El Catrin/La Catrina pageants during the day.  There is a $10 fee for adults to compete for a chance to win bragging rights and a cash prize. Adults should sign up at our information booth in the Park by 2pm. We encourage everyone to get in the spirit by dressing up or getting their face painted.  Browse our Facebook page and Day of the Dead page for images of previous winners and traditional garb.

The Park will be the place to browse our artisanal vendors, get your face painted, enjoy dancers, live music, view the Catrin/Catrina contest, take a picture of the kids, contribute to our community altar or get some food and drink.  It will also be the location of special final performance and the blessing of the messages to those we have lost.

In addition, businesses on Main Street will have entertainment, special menus, kids’ activities, and many ofrendas honoring family, friends, and community members.  Grab a printed program on the morning of the event at the Wine Information Center at Main Street & Big Trees Road, the information desk in the Community Park, or at select participating businesses to see a map of the event area and a list of all the participating businesses.

10.01.2023 Vendor Update:  We are full for our 2023 event.  We want to remind everybody that this is a juried event with very limited vendor space, and we accept only those vendors who are a good fit for our event with Dia de Los Muertos-themed and culturally authentic artisan offerings.  Halloween-themed items are not accepted at this event. If you would like to be considered for next year, please email us a description and photos of your vendor booth or items to us now, and we’ll put you on a waitlist for next year.  We welcome your interest in our event.

Want to get involved with this event?  We always need volunteers to help out on the day of the event.  It’s just an hour or two, you’ll be in the Park where most of the action is, and you’ll get the satisfaction of helping us make this event happen as well as our gratitude!  You’ll be helping at the information desk or helping us set up and take down the Community Altar. Sign up here.

There is additional information being added to our Day of the Dead event page regularly so make sure to take a look at in the days leading up to the event.

Thank you to our sponsors, participants, volunteers, and all those who attend this event.

It all starts here: California Certified Sustainable Vineyard

Our vineyards are magical
Historically, the vineyard has brought huge success to many extraordinary Winemakers through the years. We feel we have the most flavorful fruit, full of warm summer breezes and cool nights off of New Melones Reservoir, and deep roots into our rolling shale (schist) hills at 2200 ft. With the first plantings beginning in 1996, Rhonê and Australian Syrah clones, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier rounded out the 52-acre Canterbury Vineyards by 2006. Also known as Renner Vineyard and operated as Renner Winery.

Beginning in 2018, under our ownership, Aloria Vineyards grew in varietals as portions of the Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc were grafted over (in order) to Barbera, Albariño, Charbono, Toro Tempranillo, Verdejo, Grenache, Cab Franc and Sangiovese.

Our Mediterranean climate with rolling hills surrounded by a large body of water, allows us to successfully grow all these varietals traditionally grown in Spain, France and Italy. Our wide variety of grapes gives us quite a pallet to work with, when creating the perfect single varietal or blended wine.

The Journey Begins in 2018 …
Sustainability
Our winemaking journey began with sustainability as our primary focus and love. The dream was planted into our hearts as Owners of Aloria Vineyards (Also named: Canterbury) when we finally landed in the Sierra Foothills, our “Forever Home”. Hard work was required to continue the journey of this high-elevation vineyard because of it’s 20+ year history for extraordinary wine grapes with unparalleled beauty and ideal terroir. Vineyard Manager, Stephen Collum sadly passed in 2020, but acted as our mentor and expert and led us down the path to a California Sustainable Winegrowing Certification in 2019. This was our proudest accomplishment to date.

07:00 PM Bad Seed Now Playing at The Metropolitan
San Andreas, CA...The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. Little Rhoda Penmark is the evil queen of the story. On the surface she is sweet, charming, full of old-fashioned graces, loved by her parents, admired by all her elders. But Rhoda’s mother has an uneasy feeling about her. When one of Rhoda’s schoolmates is mysteriously drowned at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark is alarmed. For the boy who was drowned was the one who had won the penmanship medal that Rhoda felt she deserved.
