All Day AAUW Home Tour December 7
Sonora, CA...Tickets are available for the 47th Annual AAUW Home Tour, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 12 to 4 p.m. Members of the Sonora Branch of AAUW* are busy preparing for their major fundraiser of the year, featuring a tour of four outstanding homes in Sonora and Columbia, including the recently restored Curtin Mansion. Tickets are $20 for the affair, which also includes tea and cookies, a boutique, and the popular basket raffle in Faith Hall at the Church of the 49ers, located on Parrotts Ferry Road and Jackson Street in Columbia. To ease congestion, this year there is a shuttle bus (provided by Linkline Charters) which can be caught at the Columbia Elementary School. It will run continuously between the school and the two homes in the Columbia area between 12 and 4 p.m.

Tickets are available at Mountain Bookshop in the Junction Shopping Center and Joan's Boutique in downtown Sonora, and Seven Sisters Soap & Candle in Columbia, or by calling 586-1322. Proceeds are distributed to local women for college scholarships, and to send eighth grade girls to Tech Trek, an annual math and science camp. The Sonora Branch of AAUW also sponsors the Speech Trek Contest for local high school students each November.

*AAUW was formerly known as the American Association of University Women, founded in 1881. Membership in AAUW is open to anyone (including men) holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Its mission is to break through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.

The Sonora Branch of AAUW was chartered in 1961 and this will be the group's 47th annual Home Tour. In addition to third Thursday monthly meetings and working on the Home Tour fundraiser, members have fun getting together in various interest groups, such as The W(h)ining Diners, Dirty Girls (gardening), Act Out (play reading), Inklings (writing), various Book groups and Bridge groups, Theatre Goers, Ladies Night Out, Nature Walks, Bocce Ball, and many more.

For more information about the Sonora Branch of AAUW, visit aauwsonora.org, send email to aauwsonora@hotmail.com, or call 536-0270.

Fullaway house 010.jpg45 KB

Perched high atop a hill with breathtaking views of New Melones Lake sits a home with a past.
Though built only three years ago by Sidle Construction, the objective was to build a 4,000 sq ft house that looked and felt as though it had been there for 100 years and through a collaborative effort with the homeowners and many skilled local artisans, create a home with character, mood and soul.

Beautifully decorated for the holiday season, come experience this truly unique home where you can expect to see 200 year old hand hewn timbers, ceilings made out of old dance floors and water tanks, old copper candy kettles used as sinks, refrigerators that look like worn armoires and if you look closely, in every room you will see a subtle nod to the sea, paying homage to the homeowners passion for diving.
