Spring Photography Contest at New Melones Lake!
Tuttletown, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation announces the third annual spring photography contest at New Melones Lake. The contest is only open to amateur photographers and the deadline for submissions is June 3, 2019. The photo contest has three categories: landscape, flora/fauna, and recreation. Participants may submit one photograph per category. All photographs must be from the New Melones Lake Recreation Area, taken in 2019, and must be in their original, un-edited form.
Two photographs from each category will be selected and the winning photographers will be awarded a two-night camping certificate for New Melones Lake. One photograph will be selected as “Best of Show,” and the winner will receive a New Melones Lake Annual Pass. The winning photographs will be announced by July 4, 2019.
Please submit photographs to Joshua Pelham at jpelham@usbr.gov, and include: the photographer’s name, contact information, location of the photograph and photographic category of each picture. For more information, contact Joshua at 209-536-9094 ext. 236.

Columbia Gold Rush Days
Columbia, CA...Reserve the second Saturday of every month for Gold Rush Days at Columbia State Historic Park. You’ll get to see inside special exhibits, stores and residences not regularly open to the public. Docents in period attire will provide lots of information on the structure of their featured building, nature of its business and equipment, contents of store merchandise, or interior décor of family homes, along with history of the times for visitors. If you’re lucky, the gambling table will be set up on the boardwalk for everyone to try their hand at betting against a mining camp gambler. This event is free.

Mother Lode Round-Up Parade is May 11th at 10am
Sonora, CA...On Saturday, May 11th, 2019, the City of Sonora will be hosting the 62nd annual Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse - Mother Lode Round-Up Parade. This event will bring thousands of visitors to the downtown area of Sonora.
Round-Up Parade Street Closures, Parking Zones, and Alcoholic Beverage Guidelines. Because this is a family event and the safety of all spectators is of the utmost importance, no glass alcoholic beverage containers will be allowed on the streets, sidewalks, or other public areas during this event.
Several streets will be closed before and during the parade, so people need to plan ahead if they are attending the parade or trying to get through town during the parade. Detours will be posted for those streets that will be closed. The following are the major street closures:
South Washington Street between Restano Way and Highway 108 will be closed at 7:30 am.
North Washington Street at Snell/Elkin to South Washington Street at Restano Way will be closed at 9:30 a.m.
All side streets between Stewart Street and Green Street will be closed at 9:30 a.m.
Portions of Snell Street and School Street will also be closed at this time.
Westbound Mono Way traffic will be detoured onto Stewart Street at Restano Way. Vehicle traffic seeking access to Stockton Road will need to use Highway 108.
Residents living in the Tuolumne Street, Calaveras Street, Nevada Street, and Oregon Street areas will be allowed access to their neighborhood from the Highway 108 at South Washington Street closure.
“No parking” will be allowed on Washington Street from Elkin Street to Toby Street, between 5:00 a.m. and the end of the parade. All side Streets between Green Street and Stewart Street will be no parking zones, as well as School Street, Wykoff Street and portions of Snell Street. The parking restrictions also apply to Stockton Road between Washington Street at 70 W. Stockton Road (Cazadora Restaurant). Special signs have been posted for “No parking” zones, and any vehicles parked in these will be towed.
If you are planning on attending the parade the Sonora Police Department encourages you to arrive before 9:00 a.m. to find parking and get settled. Access for participant drop-off will be South Washington Street, south of Restano Way. No access will be allowed from Mono Way after 9:00 a.m., and there will be absolutely no stopping and unloading from Mono Way once controls are in place.
Motorists traveling eastbound on Stockton Road will be detoured at Forest Road. Those who continue Stockton Road will be turned around prior to the Green Street intersection. Large tractor-trailer type vehicles which reach this point may have to remain parked until the conclusion of the parade. Motorists can expect heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic after the parade, so we ask for your patience and use of extreme caution when traveling in this area.

Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A Concert Celebrating the Avery Hotel Restoration featuring The Rhythm Riders & Tom Drinnon
Avery, CA...The Avery Hotel Restoration is Complete! Built in 1851, the 167-year-old landmark Avery Hotel has been restored to its original splendor and has added a beautiful new stage, nestled among the trees and perfect for concerts and dancing under the stars. Inaugurating the new stage are the popular Johnny Cash / Patsy Cline tribute band, The Rhythm Riders. Fronted by award-winning vocalists Johnny and Dee Price, The Rhythm Riders will perform Johnny Cash’s favorite train songs, including Wabash Cannonball, Hey Porter, and Wreck of the Old 97.
WS Holland, Johnny Cash’s drummer for 37 years, has played with The Rhythm Riders and calls them “one of the best Johnny Cash tribute bands in America today.”

Murphys Creek Theatre's "Barefoot in the Park" is April 26th to May 19th
Murphys, CA...Love conquers All... Right? Opposites attract in Murphys Creek Theatre's hilarious spring production of Barefoot in the Park Newlyweds Paul & Corie Bratter have found the perfect little love nest in New York City. Never mind that you have to climb up 5 flights to get to it (6 if you count the front stoop) and that the heater works backward AND the forecast calls for snow! Oh, and there’s a hole in their skylight...Love can conquer all, right?
It's Neil Simon at his best. Barefoot in the Park debuted on Broadway in 1963 and became wildly successful. The tenth longest running non-musical play in Broadway History in fact. His follow up play was also a smash hit... ‘The Odd Couple.’
Overall, Simon garnered 17 Tony nominations and won three. During one season, he had four successful plays running on Broadway at the same time, and in 1983 became the only living playwright to have a New York theatre, the Neil Simon Theatre, named in his honor. Simon also drew "extensively on his own life and experience" for his stories, with settings typically in working-class New York City neighborhoods, similar to ones in which he grew up. In 1983, he began writing the first of three autobiographical plays, Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983), Biloxi Blues (1985) and Broadway Bound (1986). With them, he received his greatest critical acclaim. After his follow-up play, Lost in Yonkers (1991), Simon was awarded a Pulitzer Prize.
With a deft hand, Maryann Curmi is in her element directing this gem. "I absolutely LOVE Simon's writing, it's real, it's raw and it's ridiculous! "His knack for taking unsuspecting, completely lovable characters and tossing them in a ring just to see what happens is unparalleled. Having a cast that is such fun to work with makes it easy too!" says Curmi.
She's happy to be back at MCT after directing successful runs of "Over the River and Through the Woods", "Last of the Red Hot Lovers", Driving Miss Daisy" and "The Foreigner".
Leading the way as the newly weds are Michelle Low as Corie Bratter and Robbie Allen as Paul Bratter. "It's such a joy to revisit one of my favorite roles" says Allen, who, with Low, played Corie and Paul together 10 years ago, "we're older and a little wiser and are seeing these roles with fresh eyes. Our life experiences since the first go around have brought our understanding of these characters to new, hopefully funnier, heights."
The cast also consists of newcomers to the MCT stage David Rodrigues as the wacky neighbor Victor Velasco and Diane Rodrigues as Corie's straight laced mother, Ethyl Banks. Although new to MCT, David and Diane are no strangers to the stage, garnering impressive theatre resumes spanning decades.
Rounding out the cast is MCT alum Kirk Summers and the wise hard working Harry Pepper and newcomer Dave Stapp as the Delivery Man. Kirk was last seen in Inspecting Carol and The Foreigner.

Almost Blue at Sequoia Woods on May 11th
Arnold, CA...Our kitchen has a "heavy load" tomorrow evening, so we're pushing bar food to a 7:30pm start on Saturday May 11. Almost Blue will be here, and so should you! Sequoia Woods Country Club is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, roughly between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park, at an elevation of 4000 feet. The club house is open to the public, with a bar and lounge, dining room and seasonal deli. The beautiful setting can be enjoyed from indoors or outside on the deck, with a view down the main tree-lined golf fairway.
The bar serves food several evenings each week and the restaurant is open for dinner every weekend. The dinner menu has a perfect variety of traditional favorites, with creative and contemporary preparations, and our guests marvel at the quality of cuisine to be found here, in this little mountain hamlet. There is dancing in the lounge every Saturday night, with a DJ or frequent live bands. The deli opens its windows to the deck for an extended summer season, with tasty sandwiches, salads and hot specials. Special group events find our venue especially accommodating and fun. This is a truly lovely place to enjoy good food, good friends and good scenery.
