Independence Hall Community Center - History

Independence Hall Community Center, Arnold, California, was officially established in 1974. From its inception, the Hall has served as a non-profit, non-tax-supported community facility for the Ebbetts Pass area. Originally, the Hall was the Avery School, a one-room elementary school with a divider creating two classrooms.

The attendance area extended along California Highway 4 from Camp Connell nearly to Murphys. The first function to be held in the building was a school Christmas program in December, 1941. The school was rededicated in 1964 as Hazel Fisher Elementary School in honor of its first principal and teacher, Miss Hazel Fisher. Following construction of a new Hazel Fisher Elementary School, the original building was signed over to the Ebbetts Pass Wonderland Association and in recognition of our nation’s bicentennial was renamed Independence Hall. The Hall was dedicated and remains this area’s community center.

07:00 PM Twisted Folk Concert Series Presents Front Country Saturday, June 24th, 2017
Vallecito, CA...Twisted Oak Winery is pleased to announce the next concert of our 2017 Twisted Folk Concert Series – Front Country. "What can you say about a band who says their influences include 'Bill Monroe, Paul Simon, Prince, and King Crimson?'" said winery owner Jeff Stai. “This is a band that isn't afraid to bring bluegrass into the 21st century. This ain't your father's twang-ey music!”

A yummy BBQ rib dinner with side salads will be available for purchase, along with yummy Twisted Oak wine, popcorn, and soft drinks. Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnics and non-alcoholic drinks, but we ask that no outside alcoholic beverages be brought in.

Seating at Twisted Folk concerts is outdoor festival style, first-come, first-served – bring a low beach-type chair or a blanket. We’re on top of a hill and there is always an evening breeze – it can get a little chilly after dark so please plan ahead.

Front Country

An acoustic band born in the land of tech innovation, Front Country was never going to be accepted as an authentic American roots band out of the gate. Cutting their teeth in progressive bluegrass jams in San Francisco’s Mission District and rehearsing in the East Bay, they learned to play roots music their own way, with the tools they had on hand. A mandolinist with a degree in composition and classical guitar. A guitarist trained in rock and world music. A bassist equally versed in jazz and bluegrass. A violinist with technique that could seamlessly hop between honky tonk and electropop. A female lead singer with grit and soul that was also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. In a wood-paneled country dive bar in the shadow of the San Francisco skyline, Front Country forged a sound hell bent on merging the musical past with the future.

With the release of their debut full-length album Sake of the Sound in 2014, Front Country began the nose-grinding work of making their name as a national touring act. Still based in the San Francisco Bay Area, they would trek the 6,000+ mile circle around the U.S. for months at a time, introducing themselves for the first time to every room that would have them. Thanks to the glow of their contest wins, festivals around the U.S. caught wind and invited them to play for their large audiences, giving Front Country a crucial first break. Old Settlers in Austin, MerleFest in North Carolina, Wintergrass in Seattle, Strawberry in California and Grey Fox in New York, all took a chance on the promising new band and solidified Front Country’s hold on the imagination of progressive-leaning acoustic music fans.

07:00 PM The 2017 Summer Hill Top Concert Series at Brice Station Continues Tonight With Bob Eisenman Jazz Tr
Murphys, CA...June 24, 2017 - Doors open at 5:30pm & Music 7:00PM - 10:00PM with Bob Eisenman Jazz Trio & Now You Hazz Jazz. About The Bob Eisenman Trio... “With a wide range of jazz styles including Jazz Standards, Straight Ahead Jazz, Blues, Ballads, and Latin Jazz, the trio performs tunes from beautiful ballads to grooving up-tempo swingers including songs from the great American song book, jazz classics and lesser known jazz greats. “The wonderful thing about jazz”, says multi-saxophonist and leader Bob Eisenman, “is that its expressive, inventive and emotive music. As a trio plus vocalist, we’re making a body of great jazz music intimate and accessible. We hope that our music touches our audience at an emotional level as well as being enjoyable to listen to.” – From the Bob Eisenman Jazz Trio Facebook Page

“From Broadway to Birdland, during a very fertile era when more than 700 big bands were delivering their music around the USA on any one night, Copeland fine-tuned his talents. And with his genius for harmony and his arrangements––custom made for particular performers––he earned the respect of many of the top jazz players and singers of his time,… Henry Mancini, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Horace Silver.

As well as winning a Grammy for The Alan Copeland Singers with his arrangement of “Mission Impossible/Norwegian Wood.” From the early 50’s on, when the silver screen was reconfigured for TV in our living rooms, Copeland was a vital source of creativity for a variety of live programs which all needed new musical scores around the clock….

Now, with a musical career spanning seven decades, Alan “Weaver” Copeland’s natural gifts continue to grow. With his current jazz quartet you can experience the spontaneous process of jazz as you hear familiar songs re-emerging as fresh and viable possibilities.

Moment by moment, Jazz mimics a living system, a positive feedback loop of listening and music-making in real time which results in that thing called Swing. And although you might refrain from dancing on your feet, you will nevertheless dance in your heart because…Now You Hazz Jazz.” – From the Now You Hazz Jazz Website
