Artist Reception and Exhibit “I Now Ring Hollow, A Memorial to Our Land” Exhibition in Mokelumne
Mokelumne Hill, Ca....Exhibit continues through November 27, 2016. Ceramic artist Mary Anderson shares her unique series of 12 Ceramic Bells, inspired by the magnificent ancient Japanese Dotaku bronze bells. According to folklore, the Dotaku bells were used for about 400 years, from 200 BC to 200 CE to warn of invasion. They were richly decorated with patterns representing nature and animals.
Mary’s “I Now Ring Hollow, A Memorial to Our Land” exhibition is complemented by the photography of Ty Childress. Ty’s photos were taken during and in the aftermath of the Butte Fire.
Visit with ceramic artist Mary Anderson and photographer Ty Childress at Petroglyphe Gallery and learn more about their art. Wine and cheese will be served. A free drawing for a $50 Gift Certificate to the gallery is going to be held at the closure of the opening event.
“Our home and land were completely burned out on September 14, 2015, the last day of the Butte fire. I felt stripped; all my possessions, art, family mementos — gone. Images of what had been on our land played in my imagination and I subsequently created this series of bells as my memorial to our home and land… interpreted in clay and glazed with ash from that devastating fire.” Mary Anderson
