All Day What’s Happening in Murphys April 1-9, 2019
Murphys, CA...What’s Happening April 1-9, 2019. Try out the Saturday Hopper bus service running between Valley Springs and Arnold with stops in Murphys from February to October. Enjoy a day in Murphys and leave the driving to Calaveras Transit! Saturdays in Murphys - are available at no charge (donations gratefully accepted) on Saturday mornings at 10am leaving from the Old Timers Museum. April 1, 2019 –Wine-Tastic Dinner at the Murphys Grille - Milliaire Winery will pair their wines with dishes from Murphys Grille’s regular delicious dinner menu. The winemaker will be at the Grille to share the winemaking process with you. Come learn the tips behind wine and food pairing in a friendly setting while talking to an expert winemaker. Glasses of Milliaire Winery’s featured wines will be greatly discounted for your enjoyment. Pair with the food selections or simply go rogue and drink with anything! All Day Spring Photography Contest at New Melones Lake!
Tuttletown, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation announces the third annual spring photography contest at New Melones Lake. The contest is only open to amateur photographers and the deadline for submissions is June 3, 2019. The photo contest has three categories: landscape, flora/fauna, and recreation. Participants may submit one photograph per category. All photographs must be from the New Melones Lake Recreation Area, taken in 2019, and must be in their original, un-edited form.


Two photographs from each category will be selected and the winning photographers will be awarded a two-night camping certificate for New Melones Lake. One photograph will be selected as “Best of Show,” and the winner will receive a New Melones Lake Annual Pass. The winning photographs will be announced by July 4, 2019.

Please submit photographs to Joshua Pelham at jpelham@usbr.gov, and include: the photographer’s name, contact information, location of the photograph and photographic category of each picture. For more information, contact Joshua at 209-536-9094 ext. 236.

10:00 AM - 04:00 PM The "Empty Bowls" International Project to Fight Hunger
Mountain Ranch, CA...Help Fight Hunger at our “Empty Bowls” cause event on April 7th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Mountain Ranch Youth Alliance and Resource Center, located at 7869 Mountain Ranch Road in Mountain Ranch. “Empty Bowls” is an international project to fight hunger, with ceramic personalized by artists and local organizations on a community level. A $10 donation buys a beautiful bowl filled with delicious homemade soup. No need to purchase ticket…Just show up, and show up early. First come, first served. Donations benefit the Mountain Ranch Youth Alliance and Resource Center and Mountain Ranch Food Pantry. There are many beautiful creations to choose from and a Silent Auction.


In partnership with Quyle Kilns in Murphys, this 2nd second annual event is inspired by the commitment of the “Empty Bowl Project”, a national project designed to provide money and/or bowls to support food insufficiency in our country.

01:30 PM Altaville Schoolhouse Lecture & Tour
Angels Camp, CA...Join us in the Angels Camp Carriage House at the museum to learn about our Charming Altaville Schoolhouse. Sunday, April 7, 2019. 1:30 p.m. refreshments, 2 – 3 p.m. lecture. Altaville Grammar School is one of the great architectural and cultural treasures of Calaveras County. Built in 1858 and funded by local residents, this brick Greek revival jewel is one of the oldest surviving grammar schools in California.



The Angels Camp Museum welcomes you to come and hear about the schoolhouse from retired Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools Kathy Northington. Kathy will highlight the school’s history and share stories from students who attended class there.

Many former students still live in the area as the schoolhouse closed its doors a mere 68 years ago. The schoolhouse will be open for touring directly after the lecture. Parking is available in the small lot adjacent to the school, on highway 49 and also in the CVS shopping area. See you there!

Cost: Free for museum members, $10 non-members
