First Fridays in the Park Closes the Season with The Iconics Tonight |
Murphys, CA...The First Fridays in the Park series will round out its 2018 season on September 7 with Music by The Iconics, a seven-member band from San Jose that plays tunes from the 50’s and 60’s with a nod to the roots of Rock & Roll. “We are thrilled to be returning to Murphys,” says bandleader Jim Barnes. “Last year we were competing with the rain, Toby Keith and Game 4 of the NBA Finals. We’re like a 60’s interactive event for people who like to get up and dance or just ‘chair boogie’ as they sing along to the iconic hits from the AM dial: Elvis, British Invasion, Surf Tunes, American Rock, Girl Groups, One-Hit Wonders, and more. Come join us. It will be fun.”
During the summer months, First Fridays in the Park presents a variety of musical groups playing in, or near, the familiar gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of good music in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park. Food and beverages are available to purchase and each event has a community sponsor.
The September meal is being offered by the Murphys Historic Hotel. The menu includes slow roasted pork loin with an apricot-shallot Viognier chutney, roasted red potatoes, green salad with honey mustard vinaigrette, warm roll with butter. Cost of the meal is ten dollars. Black Sheep will be the featured wine.
Tim O’Connor, DDS will be one of the community sponsors
There is no admission charge and ample free parking is available nearby. Donations to help maintain the park are always gratefully received.
