Butte Fire Road Recovery Project Public Workshop
Mountain Ranch, CA...The Butte Fire Road Recovery Project Public Workshop is August 15th, 2019 from 6:00pm-7:00pm. The Calaveras County Department of Public Works is hosting a public workshop on August 15th, 2019 at the Mountain Ranch Community Club in Mountain Ranch. In late 2018, PG&E and Calaveras County agreed on a $25.4 million settlement for economic damages stemming from the Butte Fire. In all, more than $20 million was available for use by Calaveras County.

In early 2019, Public Works developed a comprehensive road restoration plan for the use of these funds. In response to this plan, the Board of Supervisors approved $13.45 million in April 2019 for the repair and restoration of roads affected by the Butte Fire. Key roads identified in the plan include Mountain Ranch Road, Railroad Flat Road, Sheep Ranch Road, Jesus Maria Road, Whiskey Slide Road, and many others.

The plan includes the necessary labor, materials, supplies, equipment, engineering and inspection support, and construction funding necessary to rehabilitate a significant number of county maintained roads affected by the Butte Fire. Public Works plans to begin these efforts in 2019, with the majority of work completed by late 2022.

A public workshop has been scheduled to share plan and project details with the public and solicit feedback. Key elected officials and Public Works staff will be in attendance, including District 2 Supervisor Jack Garamendi and Public Works Director Joshua Pack.

Please feel free to contact Public Works at (209) 754-6401 with any questions.
