Romeo & Juliet
“These violent delights have violent ends, and in their triumph die, like fire and powder, which as they kiss, consume.”

You already know Romeo and Juliet. It’s a Shakespearean pop-culture reference identifiable as “All You Need is Love.” It’s timeless. It’s violent, It’s hilarious. It’s tragic. The script is ecstatic in its poetry. However, MCT has something special up its sleeve for you this Fall.

Running September 13 through October 13, Murphys Creek Theatre is presenting Romeo and Juliet. Artistic Director, Robbie Allen, has brought the incredible Lindsay Pearce to our stage as Juliet. Pearce has accumulated a very successful TV/Film and stage career including Glee, Recovery Road and The Wedding Ringer. Allen, a Sonora local, and long-time producer of Shakespeare in Los Angeles, is her Romeo.

Set in a modern era, Verona’s Montague and Capulet families have been feuding for decades; and whenever they meet, violence and bloodshed break out. However, when Romeo glimpses Juliet across a crowded dance floor, events are set in motion that will change their families forever. With an exciting plot featuring a masqued ball, sleeping potions, and all-out brawling in the street, wrapped in a text full of soaring poetry, it is no wonder Romeo and Juliet has stood the test of time is considered of Shakespeare’s very best.

Allen tells us about the show, “What we are really focusing on in this production is the relationships between the characters and to show that Romeo and Juliet are really two outcasts who find truth and meaning in one another in a world filled with chaos.” He goes on to say, “the fact that, in the end, all they truly have is one another is both heartbreaking and shows the isolation they’ve felt their whole lives. This wonderful group of actors have done an incredible job of achieving that vision and I believe audiences are going to see something incredibly special happen on that stage.”

Audiences will also experience the newly expanded stage. Allen shares, “It has opened up a whole new world of possibilities and professionalism to our productions. I can’t wait to share it with our patrons.”
