Calaveras County – December 13, 2011 – The Highway 4 Teen Center group will hold a general meeting 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Union Congregational Church, 1141 S. Main St., Angels Camp. All interested teens, adults, teachers, administrators, business owners and community members are encouraged to attend...
The steering committee met in December and much progress has been made toward creating a teen center to serve the Highway 4 corridor between Arnold and Copperopolis. During the meeting Ray Malerbi joined the board of directors. A few more positions are open, including two or three more teens and two adults. Those interested in joining the board can contact Jan Hovey, president, by calling 728-9700 or e-mailing jhovey@goldrush.com.
Due to a $4,000 grant awarded by the Calaveras Community Foundation, board member Rev. Lloyd Schneider is now working on filing for non-profit status, as well as establishing articles of incorporation and bylaws with Michele Rugo, Secretary. Danny Eustis-Smith and Sydney Klann, students at Bret Harte High School are working on creating a logo. Tim Smith is currently researching possible locations that would be within walking distance of Bret Harte. Suggestions for locations can be made by e-mailing Smith at happytimmy55@gmail.com.
“We have more than 120 people on our e-mail list that are interested in helping make this dream a reality,” said Hovey. “When it comes to creating a teen center, the more the merrier and there is less work for everyone. We highly encourage people to join one of our committees.”
