AmadorArts is partnering with ACRA to offer professional has been notified by the California Arts Council, a State agency, that it has been selected to receive grant funding to implement a program that will provide a variety of opportunities for youth to participate in free arts workshops at the HUB Community Center in downtown Jackson. Local artists will teach classes in many arts disciplines to junior-high aged youth in an after-school setting. A requirement of the grant was to partner with another local public agency, and ACRA (Amador County Recreational Agency) is the key player to share in the implementation.
The CAC grant is “Creating Places of Vitality,” created by the State to support small arts organizations in rural and underserved communities that propose new partnerships which will help revitalize communities. Each applicant has designed its own project. AmadorArts is one of 84 California arts organizations that will receive these grants. Only 11 recipients are local arts councils in counties such as Yolo, El Dorado, and Napa. Most of the other arts organizations are in the San Francisco Bay Area; a smaller amount from the Los Angeles area. A total of $996,740 will be awarded. The individual awards must be matched which means the local agencies need local sponsors and donations to help fund their project.
The AmadorArts/ACRA project is titled “HUBArts,” and the goals are:
· To provide after-school opportunities for local junior-high-aged youth to experience and engage in arts activities
· To launch the HUB as a community center for arts and activities
· Create positive activities for youth in downtown Jackson
The project is supported by JUSTAP, Jackson Junior High School, City of Jackson and the Amador Alliance for Arts Education. Advanced art students at Argonaut High are currently working on logo designs.
We are hoping that this program will bring the art and vitality of youth to the City of Jackson. We would like to give local businesses the opportunity to display youth artwork from the program, and find ways to work together to build on the vibrancy of downtown Jackson.
If you are able, please stop by the KICK-OFF party on Thursday October 17th at 3pm at the HUB, 206 Main, to get a taste of the HUBArts Program. |
