Sonora, CA...Tips on researching genealogical information in newspapers, in online books and in the US Census will be among topics offered at a Genealogy Workshop set for Saturday, Oct. 12, by the Tuolumne County Genealogical Society. Interested community members are invited to drop in any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the LDS Family History Center, 19481 Hillsdale Drive, Sonora. A fee of $5 for non-society members can be applied to first time membership dues if the attendee joins the society. Society members may participate at no charge.
Local genealogy experts will conduct 45-minute classes on a variety of topics during the workshop. Topics will include Familyserach.org, Family Tree, Black History, US Census, Civil War, World War I, World War 2, Carlo De Ferrari Archives, Newspapers, Online Books, Attaching Photos, Evernote, Quaker research and various ethnicities including Italian, Irish, Scottish, Danish, German, Canadian and Mexican.
Volunteers also will be available to assist beginners and do problem solving on specific topics.
Also available will be information about local resources including the Family History Center, the Tuolumne County Library and the Genealogy Library on Bradford Street in Sonora.
Questions about the workshop may be directed to the Tuolumne Genealogy Library at 532-1317 or Lin Gookin, society education director. The library is located at 158 W. Bradford St., in Sonora and is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
