Angels Camp, CA...The Lee Family who are Local fishing royalty did their part to give back to the community and the fishing community as they did their annual fish plant in Angels Creek. This plant should help the next generation of young anglers hone their skills in their local creek. The plant is courtesy of Dennis Lee 72 3rd Generation resident of Angels Camp and his four businesses Lee - Way Construction Inc., New Melones Storage, Murphys Inn Motel, and Murphys Suites. They stocked the Angels Creek with 450 pounds of 2-4 pound fish and 50 pounds of 5 to 10 pound fish.

Angels Camp, CA...Murphys Inn Motel and Lee-Way Construction planted 600-lb of trout in the Angels Creek between the head of Tryon Park and the fireman's hole weighing 1 to 2 pounds each. These fish were purchased from Calaveras Trout Farm. This donation was provided to our community because our family loves fishing so much we want to share it with the youngsters in the area. They did the planting ahead of the April 28th opening day of trout season.

Trout Season Opening Day: Non-Profit Group CalTrout Bolsters Healthy Fish Populations |
Posted by: thepinetree on 04/26/2018 03:49 PM
|
Mt. Shasta and Mammoth Lakes, CA...Trout Fishing Season will open this Saturday, April 28th across California, and anglers have good reason to expect tight lines. Their stream-side success will be thanks, in part, to the work of California Trout. A non-profit restoration, research and advocacy organization, CalTrout runs projects throughout the state that support native salmon, steelhead and trout populations. Two current efforts that are helping trout populations are a conservation, recreation, and cultural resource protection program on Hat Creek, in Shasta County, and a research and restoration program in high Sierra meadows, which benefits Kern River rainbow trout.

Opportunities Abound for Anglers Despite Flooding of Moccasin Creek Hatchery |
Posted by: thepinetree on 04/25/2018 05:19 PM
|
Moccasin, CA...Anglers anticipating California’s general trout opener Saturday, April 28 will find many local fishing opportunities despite the flooding of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) Moccasin Creek Hatchery in Tuolumne County, which supplied many Central Valley and western Sierra Nevada waters with trout. Don Pedro Reservoir, located downstream from the Moccasin Creek Hatchery, received an emergency plant of 150,000 rainbow and brook trout late last month when CDFW was granted a small window of time to return to the evacuated hatchery and rescue fish after the hatchery was flooded by a storm-swollen and overflowing Moccasin Creek Reservoir, which sits immediately upstream from it. The total weight of trout stocked to Don Pedro immediately after the flood was approximately 40,000 pounds. This emergency measure made the best use of resources in a catastrophic situation. CDFW biologists, hatchery staff and wildlife officers worked well into early morning hours to rescue fish and stock them into Don Pedro. Don Pedro is home to many species of game fish, but hadn’t been planted with trout by CDFW since 2016. Don Pedro is open to trout fishing year-round.
