Arnold, CA...The opener was slow due to increased flow in the rivers and creeks and access was limited due to the snow-pack. There was still success stories for the opening day from the North Fork of the Stanislaus and Beaver Creek. Most of the fishermen that did well were using Panther Martin's and Rapala's. I would Like to also thank the Master-Baiters fishing club for all their support as they have been coming here for 26 years...

Welcome to Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods first fishing report for the the 2009 season. General fishing season opens this upcoming Saturday April 25, 2009. We are looking forward to a fabulous fishing season. Access will be limited to Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Board's Crossing Road in Dorrington. The NCPA anticipates having Spicer open by Memorial weekend depending on snowmelt and weather. For an update on the road to Spicer you can call 209-728-1387. If you are able to make it to Spicer, Hobart Creek is off limits until July....

Greetings! Well, as I sit here typing this, the rain is coming down in buckets, filling up our lake (and our parking lot!). New Melones has really been rising- it came up three feet last week, and I'm sure it will come up some more this week, with all this rain! We had a great seminar this weekend. Fred Thomasen gave a great, informative seminar- 70 people attended- a great turnout, despite the weather. We gave away some goodies to some lucky winners, including a Plano tackle box worth $60 and a Shimano baitcasting reel valued at $249...

Fishing Report shores...Trout: The Department of Fish and Game will be planting Melones again this week. Fishing from the bank, or still-fishing from your boat will catch the most fish. Bruce Shores of Modesto wins Glory Hole Sports Big Fish of the Week Contest and a free deli lunch with a 2.2-pound brown trout that he caught on a garlic marshmallow while bank-fishing off of Glory Hole Point. Mel Taguinod of Rio Vista caught a limit of rainbows on pink Power Bait while fishing in the same area. 12-year-old Daniel Ernster of Sonora threw silver/blue Kastmasters to catch a limit of .....

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,152,655 acre-feet of water. Water level held steady this week, and is at 962 ft. above sea level and 126 ft. from full capacity. Water in the main lake is approximately 52-54 degrees. The lake has turned over. Water is slightly stained to clear in the main lake.....
