2008 Court Ruling on Fish Stocking May Affect Local Fishing Industry By~Bill Reynolds

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 12/02/2008 08:33 AM
Arnold, CA...Hello fellow fisherpeople and outdoor sportsmen. Catching a fish of a lifetime or having your children or grand children enjoy the pleasures of catching their first fish may be only a memory of days gone by. This letter comes to you as a result of a recent court ruling passed down just last week. I am sorry this is not a fishing report, instead a report of things to come that will affect hundreds, if not thousands of people including all of the businesses that are dependent on our fisheries up and down our Highway 4 corridor. The ruling is result of a lawsuit filed in 2006 against the Department Of Fish and Game. The lawsuit was filed by The Pacific Rivers Council and the Center for Biological Diversity, represented by Stanford Law students. The DFG was sued over fish stocking programs it has engaged in for more than 100 years, claiming that no Environmental Impact Report (EIR) had been completed for the programs. The result of the case was a court order requiring DFG to complete an EIR. DFG is engaged in the years-long and multimillion dollar EIR process, now scheduled to be completed in...

Central Sierra/Hwy 4 Fishing Report for Week of October 26th, 2008~By Bill Reynolds of Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/27/2008 06:33 PM
Lake Alpine has been producing big beautiful rainbows. The nights are cooler and the water temperature has dropped, and the fish are very active. The ramp is out of the water, so if you have a large boat you won't be able to launch. You will need a pontoon style boat or small aluminum boat. Bait casters should try Gulp Power Bait, Floating Power Eggs, and nightcrawlers. Fly fishermen have doing excellent using Adams, woolly buggers, and caddis flies. Lure casters should try Rapala's, and Kastmasters......

Lake Alpine has been dropping steadily ths past week. You can launch a small aluminum boat, kayak or canoe, but it would be difficult if not impossible to launch a larger boat. Fishing went from so so to red hot this past weekend as the weather has cooled and the fish are starting to move up. Fly fishermen have been catching the bigger fish.
