Lake Alpine has been dropping steadily ths past week. You can launch a small aluminum boat, kayak or canoe, but it would be difficult if not impossible to launch a larger boat. Fishing went from so so to red hot this past weekend as the weather has cooled and the fish are starting to move up. Fly fishermen have been catching the bigger fish. Zach Mahon, a 14 year old fly fisherman,caught a huge 6lb. 8oz. Rainbow on a woolly bugger. Zach caught the fish on Saturday while fishing from his float tube (Picture attached). Congratulations Zach.....

Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher/nightcrawler combo, you should be fishing at slow speed. Lake Alpine has been steady early in the morning and late in the evening when it has been cooler. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher/nightcrawler combo, you should be fishing at slow speed. Fly fishermen have had success using midge flies, woolly buggers, nymphs, and sparrow nymphs in the late evening. Bank fishermen should try inflated nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, floating Power Eggs,and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails....

Labor Day weekend was a busy weekend along the Highway 4 corridor. Although it was packed in most places it did not discourage the fishermen. Lake Alpine has been pumping out bigger fish due to the recent trout plants and cooler nights. Christian Burns, a young customer, caught a huge 5lb. 1 oz. rainbow trout on Sunday August 31st. Great catch Christian.....

New Melones, this impoundment on the Stanislaus watershed continues to produce the finest Kokanee fishing here in Northern California. Kokes over two pounds are very common as witnessed by Ron Peterson of Sonora who took an easy limit on 8-08-08 off the spillway at 105'. Most of Ron's catch came on Uncle Larry's Spinners or Glitterbug Glow Hootchies scented with garlic Shoepeg corn trailed behind a Shasta Tackle U.V. Slingblade.....
