43rd Annual Bjornloppet Hits The Nordic Trails

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/26/2016 01:47 PM
Bear Valley, CA...On Saturday, March 12th, cross country skiers from near and far will assemble in the Bear Valley Meadow for the 43rd running of the Bjornloppet Ski Race and Festival. With a 10:30 am start, The Bjornloppet, meaning Bear Race in Norwegian, is enjoyed by young and old alike. There are divisions for all ages and two distances are offered, 20 kilometers (two laps) and 10 kilometers in Saturday’s freestyle (striding or ski skating) race. The mass start is fun to watch with the go-fast racers using the ski skating technique. The course winds through aspen trees, over some roller coaster terrain and ends up on the Bjornloppet Trail with its notorious Bjornloppet Downhill. Big thrills are part of the racing game as the race can be won or lost on this section alone. After the race is over, skiers will gather for an outrageous awards party with food, awards and prizes from Salomon, Clif Bar and many of the local merchants.

Calaveras Wineries Winning Prestigious Awards ~CVB Feature

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/26/2016 04:36 PM
Murphys, CA...Wine aficionados have discovered the unique qualities of the Sierra Foothills appellation which includes Calaveras, but they may be unaware of the scope and quantity our wineries.  You don’t want to miss the wine scene here in Calaveras, and here’s why:  What makes Calaveras wines stand out? It’s a combination of soil, climate, talent, expertise and sometimes luck. But innovation is also a huge part of the winemaking process in Calaveras County, with local winemakers showing a fearlessness about trying new varietals, techniques and ideas. You’ll also discover a low key, snob-free zone; a lack of pretension, and just a genuine love of excellent wine. You’ll experience this as a friendly, helpful, down-to-earth attitude from our local wine experts.
