Mountain Ranch, CA ...The Third Annual Mountain Ranch Talent Show will be held at the Mountain Ranch Community Hall on Saturday, March 29th. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show starts at 6:30. This event is a fundraiser put on by the Mountain Ranch Scholarship Fund Committee to raise money for scholarships to be awarded to graduating seniors from the Mountain Ranch and Sheep Ranch areas....

MCT opens its 20th season with Neil Simon’s hilarious farce, “Rumors”

Muprhys, CA ...20 years ago this May a group of friends got together to put on a play and Murphys Creek Theatre was born. The play was “Rumors”, by Neil Simon. As an homage to that auspicious beginning, MCT is once again mounting this play with several of the original cast members. “I had forgotten how funny this play actually is”, said artistic director Graham Green, “and I’m really thrilled to be working on it again. It brings back so many memories of the early days.” The returning cast members are: Sheila Doyle playing Claire Ganz, Tom White playing Ernie Cusack, and Terri Wilson (one of the co-founders) playing Cookie Cusack.

Murphys, CA...The official weather reports are in and a sunny 75-degree day is predicted for Murphys Irish Day, Saturday, March 15. “The weather plays a major role in the success of this annual celebration,” says Jim Heryford, president of the Murphys Business Association, the organizers of the event. “We couldn’t be more pleased.” Activities begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Congregational Church. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. festivities will include live entertainment, arts and craft vendors, pony rides, a wide variety of foods and beverages, and a raffle with a trip to Ireland as grand prize. At 11 a.m. a parade featuring bagpipes, marching groups, horses and other animals, classic cars, a ten-foot-tall leprechaun and much more will make its way down Main Street....

Mountain Ranch Man Celebrates Centennial

Mountain Ranch, CA....Joined by family and friends, Emil Gruna celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday, February 15, at a lunch at the Pickle Patch restaurant in San Andreas. He was born on February 11, 1914, and was raised in Rosholt, Wisconsin. World War II found him and his family moving to Southern California to support the war effort. After his retirement from Lockheed Aviation, he was able to pursue as a hobby his talent in woodworking. He moved to Mountain Ranch in the early 1970s and still lives in the same house.

The 2014 BINGO season is now in progress. We play every Wednesday night at 7:00pm sharp. Please come early enough to buy your playing packets and get setup. Players must be 18 years of age. BINGO is open to the public and no reservations are required. We also have a concession stand that raises money for our Local High School Scholarships.

Mark Twain Medical Center Announces 5th Annual Spring Health Fair & Lupus Awareness Fun/Run Walk

Murphys, CA....Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 5th Annual Health Fair and Lupus Fun/Run Walk on Saturday, March 22nd, from 8am until noon at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. Over forty community health related service groups will participate in this community-wide event. A wealth of information will be available on topics such as senior health services, health insurance, nutrition, fitness and diabetes. There will also be a variety of free health screenings – body fat, physical fitness levels, colon cancer screening kits, and metabolic screenings. Low cost testing and services include Blood Analysis ($45), and Bone Density Screenings ($10). In addition to the five-panel blood analysis (this test consists of a chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, iron for women, and PSA for men), the Medical Center will also now screen for vitamin D deficiencies....

Cowboy Singer, Dave Stamey, Comes To Town

Angels Camp, CA...Mike Fleming, Director of the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival says “Dave Stamey is one of the best Western songwriters alive today. His melodies blend perfectly with his lyrics to the point where you can almost feel the wind against your face and smell the soft scent of the sage. He never fails to engage his audience and take them on a rewarding journey through the panorama of the West.” Jack Hannah of the Sons of the San Joaquin says Dave Stamey is “One of the most talented young songwriters in the country”. Calaveras Arts Council Ovation’s ticket holders will have an opportunity to sing their own praises for him when they see him perform for the arts council’s last show of the season. Called the Charlie Russell of Western Music by Cowboy and Indians Magazine, Dave Stamey comes to the Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center in Angels Camp on Sunday, March 30....
