Bear Valley, Calif., (January 22, 2014) – This weekend the Bear Valley Race Team will host the first USSA race for the Far West Central Series ages U8 – U 14. Teams from Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass and China Peak will meet at Bear Valley for training on Friday, January 24 and races will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 25 and January 26...

Sonora, CA...Sonora- America's original Celtic Faire, featured on National Geographic Television, returns to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds on March 7-9th, 2014. The 28th Annual Sonora Celtic Faire will expand to three days of never ending Celtic entertainment. The largest gathering of Celtic musicians will be one of the highlights at this year's event, from high-energy Celtic rock bands to the most traditional of groups. With 20 musical groups, performing on seven stages, the faire offers something to every age and ear! From National Geographic Television to the History Channel, featured performances in 2011 and 2012 we keep adding more non-stop entertainment for everyone which includes: Scottish & Irish Clans, belly dance troupes, Scottish dancers, Celtic Windows in Time-, (featuring 600 costumed re-enactors and 2500 years of Celtic History), armored foot combat, Welsh longbow archery, street performers, a fire breathing dragon, Vikings, jugglers, and a fire eater. Other highlights include the large Celtic food court and Celtic marketplace, with 80 Celtic vendors, artisans, and crafts persons. Under the egis of the Murphys Business Association (MBA), the signature event will be held Saturday, March 15, the Saturday closest to St. Patrick’s Day. “This event, which means so much to our community, would not be possible without the hard work by a number of people who give of their time for many weeks to make sure Irish Day continues to be one of the most popular happening in the Mother Lode,” says MBA president Jim Heryford....

Mokelumne Hill, CA...ENCAUSTIC BASICS & BEYOND with artist Suzanne Bell is a one day encaustic workshop that focuses on the safety, studio set up, history of encaustics, and several encaustic painting techniques. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn how to fuse with iron, carve to define shapes, discover layers of color by scraping, and use tape for line and design. Students will also explore the use of various encaustic tools such as blow torches, heat guns, the stylus, oil sticks, and many more unique gadgets! Several encaustic masterpieces will be created by each participant by the end of the workshop. Join us for this unique and fun class!
