Cowboy poets will compete for braggin' rights and a $200 cash prize in the First Ever Ranch House Cowboy Poetry Competition on May 16 at Frogtown. Murphys, CA....Our little wine mecca was filled to overflowing on Presidents Weekend. The main draw was Calaveras Winegrape Alliance's 18th Annual Presidents’ Wine Weekend. Visitors could pick special wineglasses from several locations taste and sample the best of the fruits of the vine that our area has to offer. The weekend also serves as a good warmup for the area as the momentum builds for Irish Day that will flood the area with all things green on March 15th....

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Cross Country will host the 41st Annual Bjornloppet XC Ski Race and Festival on March 8th and March 9th, 2014. This is one of the longest running ski races in the west and it is open to all ages. In addition, the California Senior Winter Games (CSWG) will be held the same weekend in Bear Valley. Bjornloppet racers ages 50 and up will automatically have their Bjornloppet race times entered in the CSWG Nordic Race Results for the California Senior Winter Games gold, silver and bronze medals...

An artist’s reception in her honor will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1 with complimentary appetizers and wine available by the glass for $5. A highly-respected local artist, Papais’ original paintings are in private collections across the country and her prints appear in many galleries nationwide.
