Murphys, CA...The Murphys Irish Day organizing committee, under the leadership of Murphys Business Association (MBA) president Michelle Plotnik, is at work creating this year’s celebration that will be held Saturday, March 15th. Murphys Irish Day, one of the Mother Lode’s most popular happenings, is presented each year by the Murphys Business Association with proceeds going for scholarships and a variety of community improvements....

Chili Cookoff Generates Food, Funds for Calaveras Food Bank ~ By Bethany Monk

Murphys, C.A...The first annual Chili Cookoff at Murphys Hotel earned more than $500 and half a pick-up truck full of canned food items to be donated to the Calaveras HRC Food Bank, according to the hotel's owner Dorian Faught. At least 150 people participated in the Superbowl Sunday cookoff from 2 to just past 4 p.m Feb. 3 outside the hotel in historic downtown Murphys, Faught said.....

Bear Valley, CA…. Yesterday, Bear Valley Mountain Resort kicked off their first BV Sessions Slope Style Series event. The competition took place on the infamous beginner run Super Cub which is located on the far west side of the mountain near Kuala Chair. The park course included three table tops, two rails, one box, and ending the course was the park wall reaching ten feet in vertical height. Before the competition began fans and local spectators surrounded the course to support the brave participants....

Current Exhibit Shows 15 Calaveras Artists’ Version of “Life’s Journeys”

San Andreas, CA...The first ever “themed” show of the Gallery Group of the Calaveras Arts Council is now on public view in its gallery on Main Street in San Andreas. The exhibit titled “Life’s Journeys” features 15 artists’ interpretations of that theme--all are new works in a variety of mediums. See a wide range of images that includes fishing scenes, old doors, sandhill cranes, antique dolls, and even a large realistic watercolor painting of Hillary Clinton as she looked during her “journey” in 1993. All of the works are for sale, with a few exceptions....
