Senator Gardner Receives Commitment from President Trump to Protect States’ Rights Regarding Legal Marijuana Industry

Washington, DC...Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today released the below statement regarding the current status of the Administration’s policy toward legal marijuana. In response to the Department of Justice’s January 4th announcement that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had rescinded the Cole Memorandum, Senator Gardner placed a hold on all DOJ nominees until he received a commitment that Colorado’s rights would not be infringed. After positive discussions with DOJ, Gardner lifted some of his holds but kept the rest in place until he received a full commitment that the guidelines of the Cole Memo would be respected.

Richard Roger Thayer II, Marie Ann Leonetti Killed in Probable Murder Suicide by Jacob Jedidiah Thayer

Pine Grove, CA...On Thursday April 12, 2018 at approximately 0305 hours the Amador County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female subject reporting that her son had killed himself at her residence on Hilltop Street in Pine Grove. Sheriff’s Deputies responded and were on scene within two minutes. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the 60 year old female along with her 4 year old granddaughter who were waiting outside. Upon entry into the residence, deputies located 26 year-old Jacob Jedidiah Thayer; 27 year-old Marie Ann Leonetti; and 60 year-old Richard Roger Thayer II. All three were deceased and all had suffered gunshot wounds.

Guilty Plea by Backpage.com CEO Carl Ferrer and Permanent Shutdown of the Online Sex Trafficking Website

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today announced that defendant Carl Ferrer, Chief Executive Officer of online sex advertising website Backpage.com, has pled guilty to one charge of conspiracy and three counts of money laundering. The defendant entered the guilty plea in Sacramento County Superior Court, resolving charges against him in the criminal case People of the State of California v. Carl Ferrer, Michael Lacey, and James Larkin. This plea follows the permanent shutdown of Backpage.com announced on April 9. The website has been described as the world’s largest online brothel, facilitating human trafficking throughout the world.

Search Continues on for Missing Skier Tom Mullarkey

Bear Valley, CA...There was a report of a possible clue yesterday in the search for missing skier Tom Mullarkey in the Bear Valley area. He was reported missing on March 14th. The Alpine County Sheriff's Department and Search & Rescue Teams were deployed to follow up. Unfortunately they were unable to provide closure in this case at this time and the search continues.

DNA Evidence Confirms Suspects in Strawberry & Twain Harte Burglaries

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."An ongoing investigation regarding a string of burglaries that occurred last year in Strawberry and Twain Harte, finally comes to an end. In September 2017, the High Risk Supervision Team attempted to locate 26-year-old Michael Valentine of Sonora to serve a probation search. Valentine was not located at that time but a search of his travel trailer was conducted. Dep. Bryan Lee was able to identify numerous items reported stolen from 8 different burglaries such as mail, check books, check making paper, check printing instructions, snow ski equipment, tools, electronics and many more.

ACPD Investigating Emailed Threats To Commit Violence At BHHS (Updated)

Angels Camp, CA...Within the last few minutes the police department was made aware of emailed threats by an unknown subject, not a student at Bret Harte High School. The threats include bringing a gun to school and shooting it. You will notice an increased police presence at the schools today, and we will provide an update as soon as possible.

Investigation Underway for Motorcycle Rider Shot Highway 26 West of Mokelumne Hill

Mokelumne Hill, CA...On Sunday 4/8/18 at approx. 1737 hours the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call of a motorcycle down near Highway 26 west of Mokelumne Hill. CHP units responded and fire/medics also arrived on scene. CHP contacted the Sherriff’s Office and advised that the injured male motorcycle rider appeared to be the victim of a gunshot wound. Sheriff’s Patrol Units and Sheriff’s Detectives responded to the scene to conduct a criminal investigation. Highway 26 between Mokelumne Hill and Paloma Road remained closed throughout the night and into the morning as Sheriff’s Investigators worked at the scene.

Angels Camp K-9 Team Competes, Brings Home Awards

Fairfield, CA...On April 6th and 7th, 2018, Travis AFB and the 60th Security Forces Squadron hosted the 5th annual DEFENDERS Military and Police Working Dog Competition. Angels Camp PD K-9 Kato, and his handler Chief Todd Fordahl brought home several awards from the event. On Friday they won 2nd place in the building search and 3rd place in the vehicle search, and 3rd place overall in the narcotics detection phase of the competition. On Saturday they won 4th place in the protection phase of the patrol competition.
