39 Year Old San Jose Man Loses Life in ATV Collision Near Niagara Creek Campgrounds

Pinecrest, CA...On June 16, 2018, at approximately 1105 hours, a 39 year old San Jose resident was driving a Can-Am side by side ATV. He was traveling westbound on Forest Service Road 6N19Y at approximately 30 MPH, near the Niagara Creek Campgrounds. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the ATV and began sliding in a southwesterly direction. The left rear of the ATV collided with a large tree, causing it to overturn.

Biplane Makes Emergency Landing Near Stevenot Bridge on Hwy 49

Tuttletown, CA...Update From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."The aircraft was forced to make a precautionary landing onto HWY 49 at the Stevenot Bridge according to protocol due to a fuel flow issue. Once additional safety checks were made, a road closure was provided so the aircraft could safely take off"

Court Temporarily Reinstating California’s End of Life Option Act

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Becerra today issued the following statement in response to the Fourth District Appellate Court’s ruling in the End of Life Option Act litigation: “Today the Fourth District Appellate Court granted our request for immediate stay in People ex rel. Xavier Becerra v. Ahn, reinstating California’s End of Life Option Act while litigation is ongoing. This ruling provides some relief to California patients, their families, and doctors who have been living in uncertainty while facing difficult health decisions.

Inmate Attack Under Investigation at California State Prison, Sacramento

Folsom, CA...A correctional officer is recovering from injuries sustained during an attack by an inmate Wednesday at California State Prison, Sacramento (CSP-SAC). A second officer was also injured while responding to that incident. At noon Wednesday, June 13, inmate Maurice Daniels left his cell in a housing unit on Facility C. He walked past a correctional officer overseeing the area and suddenly punched him in the face.

Marijuana Eradication in Railroad Flat, 1,309 Plants & 171.56 Lbs of Marijuana

Rail Road Flat, CA...On 6-13-18 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana/cannabis cultivation at an address in the 2000 block of Mason Road, Railroad Flat. This site was previously registered as a commercial medical cannabis cultivation site. Deputies seized 1,309 marijuana plants, 171.56 pounds of processed marijuana and issued three citations for the three subjects located on the property at the time of the search warrant.

Three Arrested for Burglary in Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA... On 06/13/18 at about 1420 hours Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence for sale in the 8000 block of Baldwin Street, Valley Springs. The Realtor called to report that some unknown subjects were in the residence. Upon arrival deputies contacted two male and two female subjects on the property. After a safety sweep of the residence, deputies noticed that it appeared the subjects were living in the residence which had signs of forced entry to the side garage door. Deputies located a running backhoe in the driveway of the property. In the bucket of the backhoe there were several items that belonged to the property.

Washington, DC...Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of a report examining various actions by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the DOJ in advance of the 2016 election in connection with the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server (referred to by the FBI and DOJ as the “Midyear” investigation).

Proposition 47 Linked to Increase in Non-Violent Crime

San Francisco, CA....Proposition 47, the state measure that reduced penalties for some property and drug crimes, did not lead to a rise in violent crime. However, larcenies did go up—driven by an increase in thefts from motor vehicles. Proposition 47 also helped reduce the state’s stubbornly high recidivism rates, but this is due in part to changes in law enforcement and prosecutorial practices.
