Sonora Man Arrested for Burglarizing Local Elementary School

Sonora, CA...39-year-old Jared J Todd of Sonora was arrested for a burglary at a local elementary school. Thanks to good teamwork between a school employee and our agency, Todd was located and taken into custody in just over an hour of the crime. On Sunday, May 9, just before noon, the Sonora Police Department responded to Sonora Elementary for a burglary alarm. Officer Brickley checked the building and found the doors and windows secure and no signs of suspicious activity.

Sonora, CA...The first day of the 2021 Sonora Certified Farmers Market will be Saturday, May 15th. The Market is open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The season will run every Saturday through mid-October. The Theall Street Parking Lot, between Stewart Street and Shepherd Street, will be closed beginning at 3:30 a.m. so vendors can set up for the event. Signs will go up every week in advance reminding everyone that there will be "No Parking" in that location after 3:30 a.m.
Dodge Charger vs Logging Truck Collision Leads to Major Injuries & DUI Arrest

Sonora, CA...On May 11, 2021, at approximately 9:40am, 56-year-old Scott Mahoney of Jamestown was driving a Dodge Charger northbound on Mill Villa Road, approaching State Route 108. At that same time, 60-year-old Anthony Forret of Murphy’s was driving his 2017 Peter Built truck, hauling a piggy backed logging trailer eastbound on State Route 108, west of Mill Villa at approximately 45-50 miles per hour. Mr. Mahoney failed to stop at the posted stop sign and traveled directly into the path of Mr. Forret’s vehicle. As a result, the right front of Mr. Forret’s vehicle crashed into the left side of Mr. Mahoney’s vehicle. Mr. Mahoney sustained major injuries and was flown to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

San Luis Obispo Police Detective Luca Benedetti Killed While Serving Stolen Property Search Warrant

San Luis Obispo, CA...San Luis Obispo Police Detective Luca Benedetti, a 12-year veteran of law enforcement, was shot and killed Monday while serving a search warrant at an apartment on Camellia Court, off Margarita Avenue near South Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. The suspected shooter was identified as Edward Zamora Giron, 37, who was found dead following the incident. Detective Steve Orozco was injured and transported to Sierra Vista Hospital, where he was treated and released Monday evening. He is expected to fully recover from his injuries.

San Andreas, CA...On May 6 2021 at approx. 10:39 pm Calaveras County Deputy Sheriffs were investigating a domestic violence call where several uninvolved witnesses reported a male pointing a firearm at a female at the Sierra Inn Motel in San Andreas, California. Both the suspect and victim had already left the Motel and were gone when the Deputy Sheriff arrived. Deputies were able to determine the identity of the subjects involved. Multiple CCSO Deputies checked several locations around the San Andreas area for the suspect for the next approximately 45 minutes.
