Vehicular Manslaughter Charges for 19 Year Old Sonora Man in Death of Sonora Woman

Sonora, CA...On October 26, 2020, at approximately 6:15 pm, 19-year-old Augustus Matthew Marinovich of Sonora was driving a 2002 Toyota Pickup westbound on Phoenix Lake Road near Bear Cub Drive at a high rate of speed. At that same time, a 33-year-old Female of Sonora was driving a 1996 Suzuki SUV along with her 4 Juvenile passengers eastbound on Phoenix Lake Road, near Bear Cub Drive. Mr. Marinovich lost control of his vehicle and veered into the eastbound lane, striking the Suzuki SUV head on. After the impact, attempts were made to assist the female driver, however she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Interim Health Officer Appointed as Calaveras Public Health Reports 3 Deaths and 5 New Cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County

San Andreas... Calaveras Public Health confirmed three additional deaths from COVID-19 in Calaveras County. They include one female who resided in District 5 and one female and one male who resided in District 1. All three individuals were over the age of 65. The individuals tested positive for COVID-19 and were unable to recover. Two of the three deaths have been linked to an outbreak among residents of Avalon Health Care San Andreas. Avalon infection control staff continue to work closely with Calaveras Public Health to monitor and track any new cases of COVID-19 among residents and staff. HIPAA privacy rules regulate the sharing of protected health information. No additional information will be reported about these individuals.

Amador County COVID-19 Update

Sutter Creek... Amador County Public Health confirms ten new cases of COVID-19 in Amador since Friday’s media release. The new cases include 4 males and 6 females, 1 child under the age of 18, 6 aged 18-49, 1 aged 50-64, 2 over 65 years of age; 2 residing in Ione, 4 living in Jackson, 1 living in Pine Grove, 1 in Plymouth, and 2 residing in Sutter Creek/Amador City. These additional cases are linked to extended family case clusters, workplace exposure, gathering, out-of-state travel and community transmission. Two individuals are currently hospitalized.

Special Enforcement Team Activity, Vehicle Pursuit in West Point

West Point, CA...On 10/22/20, at about 9:00 PM, The Calaveras County Special Enforcement Team was patrolling near the intersection of Hwy 26 and Snead Road, West Point. Deputies observed a motorcycle with no license plate or proper lighting equipment (dirt bike) driven on the roadway. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver of the motorcycle ignored the emergency lighting and siren and attempted to evade capture by accelerating to a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued for approximately 2.7 miles. The driver stopped the motorcycle just north of the Amador/ Calaveras County line and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies ran after the suspect and apprehended him approximately 40 yards away.

Washington, DC...Following a unanimous vote by the Judiciary Committee last week, the Senate just confirmed Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett to become the 115th Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. “Having confirmed her to the Circuit Court in 2017 with bipartisan support, the Senate has already undertaken a thorough and rigorous review of her record,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said after President Trump made the nomination last month.
