Memorial Fund Set Up For Slain Newman Police Officer as Search Continues for His Killer |

Newman, CA...Newman Police Officer Ronil Singh (33) was shot and killed during a traffic stop just before 1:00 AM on 12/26/18. At 12:57 AM, Officer Singh called off on a traffic stop at Merced Street and Eucalyptus Avenue in Newman. A few moments later he called out “shots fired” over the radio. Multiple agencies responded to assist and Singh was found at the scene with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Newman Police Corporal Ronil Singh: “On behalf of all Californians, Anne and I extend our condolences to Corporal Singh’s wife, young son, loved ones and colleagues. Our hearts are with the entire community of Newman and law enforcement officers across the state who risk their lives every day to protect and serve the people of California.” Corporal Singh, 33, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning following a traffic stop in Newman.

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. Granted 274 Pardons or Commutations on Christmas Eve |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced that he has granted 143 pardons and 131 commutations. Individuals who have been convicted of a crime in California may apply to the Governor for a pardon. Those granted pardons all completed their prison sentences years ago and the majority were convicted of drug-related or other nonviolent crimes. Pardons are not granted unless they are earned.

Newman, CA...From the Stanislaus Sheriff's Dept..."The following photographs of the suspect which include his name and birth date have been circulating on social media. We can confirm that these are photographs of the man who murdered Corporal Ronil Singh. We CANNOT, however, confirm that the correct name or birth date is being put out. Once we have confirmed his name and date of birth, we will officially release it."

Valley Springs, CA...From San Andreas CHP..."It is with great sadness that San Andreas CHP had to investigate a fatal traffic collision last night, 12/23/2018. A 27-year old Valley Springs woman, Chelsea Lund, lost her life and we believe that a DUI driver was the cause of this collision. Fatal collisions are always horrible and being so close to Christmas makes this one so much worse."

Attempted Murder Charges for Murphys Woman for Stabbing Another Woman over Boyfriend. |

Sonora, CA...Thursday the Sonora Police Department arrested 28-year-old Amanda Burback of Murphy’s for attempted homicide following an altercation that resulted in a stabbing. At approximately 10:08 a.m., the Police Department received a 9-1-1 call concerning a physical fight in progress between two females at the business parking lot of 130 Stockton Road. When officers arrived on scene, they identified Burback as one of the involved parties but were unable to identify who the other party was. A short time later, the other involved female arrived at the Adventist Health Emergency Room reporting to have been stabbed.

Valley Springs, CA...On 12-15-18 a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputy contacted Edward Pereira (age 45 of Campo Seco) who was driving in the area of Campo Seco. At the time of this contact, Pereira presented documentation of temporary vehicle registration. The Deputy was suspicious about the validity of the paperwork and after the contact further follow-up was conducted through the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Squatters Arrested for Burglary and Other Charges in Copperopolis |

Copperopolis, CA...On 12-16-18 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report of subjects possibly living in or “squatting” in a vacant residence. Deputies initiated an investigation into the property located in the 4000 block of Edgewater Court in Copperopolis. Deputies were able to confirm that this residence was not “vacant”. Deputies made contact with the home owner out of county who confirmed that no one should be living at the house which contained a number of valuable items. During the early morning on 12-17-18 Deputies responded to the residence and were able to see two subjects inside. Deputies formed a perimeter around the property for the burglary in progress and made several announcements for subjects to come out. With no response from inside, deputies made entry and arrested two subjects from inside the house. The arrestees were identified as Larry Vannatta (age 44 of Copperopolis) and Cathryn Walter (age 45 of Angels Camp).
