Washington, DC...Supreme Court Affirms Ninth Circuit's Decision Violent Felony Language in Immigration Law is Unconstitutionally Vague. The case is Sessions v. Dimaya (15-1498) "The Ninth Circuit’s judgment—that 18 U. S. C. §16(b), which defines violent felony for purposes of the Immigration and Nationality Act’s removal provisions, is unconstitutionally vague—is affirmed." Copperopolis Burglary Suspects Captured in Tuolumne County

Copperopolis., CA...On 4-16-18 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a commercial burglary at the True Value store on Spangler Lane in Copperopolis. In reviewing video surveillance, deputies saw that at approx. 0315 hours, a black Jeep Cherokee with no license plates smashed into the glass door of the business. Two occupants of the vehicle then entered the store and stole various Stihl products including chain saws, rototiller, and a cement saw. The subjects then fled the area. Calaveras deputies shared a Be-On-The-Lookout alert to surrounding agencies for the commercial burglary suspects.

Two More Valley Springs Area Illegal Marijuana Grow Houses Eradicated

Valley Springs, CA...On 4-16-18 two more illegal marijuana grow houses were eradicated during the service of search warrants. Both of these locations were linked by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team investigators to the same criminal organization as 12 other previously eradicated locations in the area.
At a large two story residence on Hillvale Lane in Burson, deputies found that the majority of the structure was converted for marijuana cultivation. This included both downstairs and upstairs of the main residence, an attached three car garage, as well as a guest house and another garage on the property. No subjects were found on scene during the service of the search warrant and 919 marijuana plants were eradicated.

Mule Creek State Prison Investigating Inmate Death as a Homicide

Ione, CA...Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) officials are investigating the death of an inmate as a homicide. During a routine security check on Monday, April 9, inmate Robert E. Hunter was found unresponsive in his cell with blunt force injuries to his face. Prison medical staff pronounced him deceased at 7:57 a.m.

Another Threatening Email Sent to Schools Likely a Hoax

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Mark Twain School District that another threatening email had been received last night by district staff. Although the Sheriff’s Office, treats and investigates every threat seriously and independently; the FBI has already sent notification to local law enforcement that this latest email is likely a hoax from the same group that sent emails on Monday 4-9-18.
