Posted by: thepinetree on 06/19/2018 09:47 PM
Columbia, CA...Columbia’s Glorious 4th of July Celebration begins with an 11 a.m. flag raising and black powder musket salute Wednesday, July 4, followed by a free concert from the Lucky CuZn Brass Band playing New Orleans style and patriotic tunes, followed by the annual Independence Day parade. July 4th in Columbia has been a tradition since at least 1852 and is the longest continuously running event in the county and perhaps even the entire motherlode. It is fun for the entire family with activities for all ages. Pete Brandt, a volunteer for over 20 years has said “It’s the most fun you can have in public that’s legal”

Another Instance of Very Active Bears Even at Low Elevations This Season

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/18/2018 05:00 PM
Sonora, CA...We have seen more instances of bear activity in Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties than in any other year in the last 13 years ThePineTree.net has been covering news. This one is from the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Dept. This inquisitive young cub was not even at the Twain Harte level but in the City of Sonora off of Racetrack. "A bear cub makes an appearance in the area of Racetrack Road at East Walnut Street in Sonora. Last week there were several sightings of a mama bear and her cub at a mobile home park and a residential neighborhood in the same vicinity. The two seemed to be searching for food as they curiously sifted through garbage and wandered through a backyard of a residence. A Sheriff’s Deputy searched the area looking for the mama bear but she was no where to be found."

Bear Valley, CA...From the Alpine Sheriff's Office...A reminder to our hiking visitors: When leaving your car to hike one of our many beautiful trails, please do not leave your credit cards, wallets or purses behind in your vehicle. Cars parked at trailheads are a common target of thieves who then go use your credit and debit cards as quickly as possible before you return from your hike.
