Columbia College Presents It's 2020 Graduating Class |

Columbia, CA...Graduation is one of the most important milestone in the academic journey of students. The entire campus community looks forward to the commencement ceremony with family and friends of the graduating class. Because of the extraordinary circumstances due to the COVID 19 pandemic, Columbia College cancelled its 51st Commencement Ceremony following the guidelines issued by the California Department of Public Health. Each and every student graduating this year will have the opportunity to return to the campus and walk formally with the class of 2021 next Spring. Although this graduating class will not get to walk in the traditional graduation ceremony, the college’s Graduation Committee has created packages for each graduating student to include a congratulatory letter from the college president - Dr. Santanu Bandyopadhyay, a graduation cap, tassel, cords and/or sashes for special program involvement, leadership, and/or high GPAs.

Valley Springs, CA...The following letter has been sent to Calaveras County by Valley Springs Law Firm Chavez-Ochoa on behalf or their clients. Ms. DeKay, On April 29, 2020, Dr. Kelaita extended the shelter-in-place order, thereby, preventing many local businesses, and my clients, specifically, from opening their doors to customers. This has had a devastating financial effect on their ability to remain in business. The numbers and the science do not justify a continuing order whereby businesses in Calaveras County need to remain closed. Regardless of what the Calaveras County Health Officer believes to be in his personal best interest, it clearly is not in the best interest of the citizens of Calaveras County. The Calaveras County Fair is facilitating an online Livestock Auction for the youth of our community who have raised quality market animals. The Auction is May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Buyers can purchase quality beef. pork, lamb, goat and rabbit. register at frogtown.org. This is a private sale, so do not be alarmed that it is not listed on the Show Circuit Website. There will be a direct link on show day. Murphys, CA...The Beautiful Veteran's Memorial was filled with Veterans and community members honoring and thanking them for their service. It was another great community event. The Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District and community members including the Kautz Family have made this memorial one of the best in the entire region. We have full video and lots of photos.

Murphys, CA...Sandra Hess, Executive Director of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance has kicked off the first of its kind, "History of Calaveras Wine Video Interview Series". The 8-Part Program takes viewers on a journey from the beginning days of grape growing during the Gold Rush Era to the time of Barden Stevenot who truly launched the wine region as we know it today, to interviews with pioneers and historians sharing remarkable stories of discovery and exploration. Today, with 40 tasting rooms to explore, the families of the Calaveras Wine Region continue to innovate and provide unique experiences to wine lovers near and far. Learn more about the history, wineries, vineyards and more in the new Calaveras Wine Region Facts & Figures doc released this January HERE.
In Interview #1, Gay Callan, Owner of Chatom Vineyards is joined by Stephen Kautz, President and Owner of Ironstone Vineyards as we "Begin at the Beginning" with first grapes planted and first winemaking families to shape the Calaveras Wine Region.
