Learn what vegetables grow well in the foothills and how best to care for them. Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County for their free Public Education class, “Introduction to Vegetable Gardening in the Foothills” on Saturday, February 1, 2020. The many micro-climates, in the foothills, challenge gardeners with variations in temperature, water needs, soil quality and pests. This class will provide a great basis for planning and cultivating a productive and vibrant vegetable garden. Handouts will be provided. This class is free and open to the public.

Would you like to make the most of what you have and possibly create a little more variety? Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County for their free Public Education class, “Grafting Backyard Fruit Trees” on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Our dormant season (late winter to early spring) is a wonderful time to expand the options in your fruit orchard. Join our instructors as they demonstrate how to graft different varieties of fruit trees to provide an abundant, varied crop. Graft scions may be available for participants to take and try. Handouts will be provided. This class is free and open to the public.

Come learn how you can grow herbs, flowers, and vegetables in smaller areas like side yards or decks. Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County for their free Public Education class, “Small Space Gardening Styles: raised beds, square-foot gardens & straw bales.” on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Raised beds allow you to grow in areas with poor soils or in a variety of containers. Square foot gardens show what you can grow in a single square foot. Gardening in straw bales will give you a built-in medium that can be located and relocated from year to year anywhere you have a sunny location. Master Gardeners will share the pros and cons of these small space gardening solutions. Handouts will be provided. This class is free and open to the public.

Sonora, CA...“The Sonora Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to continue sponsoring the 34th Annual Orient Express Run in Chinese Camp, come rain or shine to raise money for Special Olympics. Over 150 “Special Olympians” take part in the Tuolumne County Special Olympics program participating in track and field, floor hockey, basketball, the state games and other sports. “These activities contribute to their quality of life, personal growth, and provide an opportunity for them to be actively engaged in competitive sports and recreation”, says Dave Thoeny, president of the Sonora Sunrise Rotary. “These activities greatly contribute to an improved quality of life for everyone in the program”, adds Thoeny.

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."On Friday, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team was among many teams called out to help Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office with the search for 74-year-old missing person, John Van Dinther. John was found on Saturday after being missing for several days. The pictures depict TCSO SAR members comforting John when they found him.

Bear Valley, CA...Our cross country skiing guests enjoy an extensive trail system with 70+ kilometers of groomed paths over 3,000 acres. We have 38 carefully groomed trails for track and skate skiing, a trailside Meadow Cafe, and three warming huts throughout the trail system. There are also two kids' ski trails, and a groomed downhill practice area. The elevation of 7,000 to 7,800 feet guarantees first to open (usually mid-November) and last to close (usually mid-April) among Sierra Nevada cross country centers.
