Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has received a generous $5000 donation from Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation. This donation benefits the Career and Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarship Fund. This marks the ninth year in a row that the C.A.R.E.S. Jamestown, CA...With an extraordinary spring wildflower season expected this year, California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are proud to provide guests with a unique opportunity to experience spring wildflowers from aboard a historic train. While the Park is open daily, special Wildflower Train Rides are available on two weekends – April 13-14 & 20-21 – and depart from the Depot promptly at 3 p.m. Prior to boarding the train, passengers will have the opportunity to learn about the wildflowers of California’s Sierra Nevada foothills with an informative naturalist presentation at 2:30 p.m.
Caltrans’ Crews Fighting Deep Snow On Way To Summit

Lake Alpine, CA...Caltrans’ Camp Connell Maintenance Supervisor Mike Johnson shot some video of the walls of snow leading to the Lake Alpine Lodge his crews have cut through in the fight to clear snow from Ebbetts Pass/State Route 4 (SR-4) for the summer season. The video shows the progress for the first week of snow removal on SR-4 with 10’-14’ drifts (and snow currently falling!). Crews across the range are finding deeper than usual drifts at lower elevations as the annual clearing proceeds.

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is delighted to name Arnold resident Christine Saul as its April 2019 Mentor of the Month. Christine has been matched with her twelve-year-old mentee, Aeryn, for almost a year and a half. “Christine is the perfect mentor for Aeryn,” said Kathryn Eustis, director of Student Support Services for the Calaveras County Office of Education. “She has a deep understanding of kids and showers Aeryn with love and attention.”
