Murphys, CA...Every year on the first Friday in December, Murphys celebrates the start of the holiday season with a community Open House from 5 to 8 pm on Historic Main Street. Admission is free, the streets are closed to traffic and we are ready to celebrate the winter holidays. Chestnuts will be roasting, carolers will be singing, and Santa will be visiting! A favorite of locals, the annual event is an old-fashioned celebration featuring a parade, holiday treats and entertainment hosted by Main Street merchants, restaurants, wineries and the Murphys Business Association. Santa and the Mrs. Will be available for photos with the kids in the Native Sons Hall. Bring your phone or camera to snap a picture or let our photographer get the shot. The New Horizon Band will be providing music in the Native Sons Hall and Road Trip Espresso will be offering hot drinks for sale nearby.

San Andreas, CA...The California Highway Patrol and Santa’s Express, are once again, teaming up for the annual CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive. The toys will be given to hospitalized and disadvantaged children in Calaveras County just before the Christmas holiday. You can help by bringing new, unwrapped, toys which will be donated to Santa’s Express. CHiPs for Kids collection barrels have been placed around the county at various locations. Toys will be collected until Thursday, December 13, 2018. Collection barrels are at the following locations: California Highway Patrol – San Andreas. Angels Camp Business Association – Angels Camp. Active Tuberculosis Investigation at Mule Creek State Prison

Sutter Creek, CA – Amador County Public Health is conducting an investigation of an active tuberculosis (TB) case documented within Mule Creek State Prison. The local health department is working with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Mule Creek State Prison, as well as the California Department of Health Tuberculosis Control Branch. Mule Creek State Prison is following all local health department medical and health guidance and is fully cooperating with the case contact inquiry. “TB control measures, case treatment, and thorough contact investigations have been instituted in close collaboration with our correctional facility partners,” states Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer.

Washington, DC...U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced that according to data analyzed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the 2018 wildfire season in California is estimated to have released emissions equivalent to roughly 68 million tons of carbon dioxide. This number equates to about 15 percent of all California emissions, and it is on par with the annual emissions produced by generating enough electricity to power the entire state for a year. The recent Camp and Woolsey fires have produced emissions equivalent to roughly 5.5 million tons of carbon dioxide.
