Life in the Pits: Scientists Identify the Key Enzyme Behind BO

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/29/2020 04:29 PM
Heslington, York, UK...Scientists have discovered a unique enzyme responsible for the pungent characteristic smell we call body odour or BO. Researchers from the University of York have previously shown that only a few bacteria in your armpit are the real culprits behind BO. Now the same team, in collaboration with Unilever scientists, has gone a step further to discover a unique “BO enzyme” found only within these bacteria and responsible for the characteristic armpit odour. This new research highlights how particular bacteria have evolved a specialised enzyme to produce some of the key molecules we recognise as BO.

Reopening Plan for Calaveras Schools

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/24/2020 09:20 AM
Angels Camp, CA...The plans for Calaveras County Schools and the fall reopening plans have been developed with technical assistance from Calaveras County Public Health. According to guidance from the California Department of Public Health on July 17, 2020, “ California public schools (traditional and charter), private schools (including nonpublic nonsectarian schools), school districts, and county offices of education, herein referred to as schools, will determine the most appropriate instructional model, taking into account the needs of their students and staff, and their available infrastructure. This guidance is not intended to prevent a school from adopting a distance learning, hybrid, or mixed-delivery instructional model to ensure safety. Schools are not required to seek out or receive approval from a state or local public health officer before adopting a distance-learning model .” https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-schools.pdf

It is anticipated that most Section start dates will commence in December 2020 or January 2021.

Governor Gavin Newsom Lays Out Pandemic Plan for Learning and Safe Schools

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/18/2020 05:06 PM
Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced his plan for learning and safe schools ahead of the 2020–2021 school year, as the California Department of Public Health issued a framework for when and how schools should reopen for in-person instruction. “Learning is non-negotiable,” said Governor Newsom. “The virus will be with us for a year or more, and school districts must provide meaningful instruction in the midst of this pandemic. In California, health data will determine when a school can be physically open – and when it must close – but learning should never stop. Students, staff, and parents all prefer in-classroom instruction, but only if it can be done safely.”

Governor Newsom Statement on Passing of Congressman John Lewis

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/18/2020 05:14 PM
Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the passing of Congressman John Lewis (D-GA): “We are a greater nation today because a young man in Alabama decided to devote his life to making “good trouble.” On the front lines of America’s struggle for justice, a young John Lewis literally shed some blood for the rights that we hold dear, daring to make real our nation’s founding promise. In his eight decades on earth, including distinguished service in the halls of Congress, he was a living, breathing reminder that all of us have the capacity to be a force for good.

Student, staff and campus densities and plans will be based on the COVID-19 guidelines from the state. Superintendent Mark Campbell held a video session to provide information as they know it at this time. Below is the video and also the notes from the session...click on the Opening Guideline image for the full pdf. We know this is CUSD specific but parents at other school districts will most likely see variations on a COVID-19 Guidelines driven theme...
