The Calaveras Redskins Hold Their Last Redskins Homecoming Rally (Updated)

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/03/2015 09:32 AM
San Andreas, CA....Depending on how the district implements the new law forcing them to change their Redskins mascot. Last Friday's Downtown Rally may have been the last Redskins Downtown Rally. If the mascot changes are needed or if it is just another instance of political correctness run amok time will tell. For the generations of Calaveras High Students who were very proud to be Redskins their choice is obvious. The district will not be forced to remove infrastructure but they will not be able to spend funds on existing things such as scoreboards etc. So as infrastructure reaches the end of it's lifespan the Redskin name will gradually fade into history. As someone with a measurable amount of Native American DNA I think the name change is just sad, political correctness that diminishes Native American culture and moves it further to the sideline of history and culture. The Rally worked and the Redskins went on to defeat their homecoming foes 42-7 (Editor's Note: My Great Grandmother was 100% Chickasaw. My father served as a 7th & 8th Grade Teacher and Principal of an elementary school on a reservation near Holbrook, Arizona for several years.)

Governor Brown Signs Bill Barring Redskins Mascot Name

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/12/2015 07:13 AM
Sacramento, CA...(Yesterday Governor Brown Signed AB-30 which would ban the use of the Redskins Mascot Name. The following is an earlier press release that gives details on the bill) Assembly Bill 30, authored by Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), passed the Assembly Floor on concurrence with a bipartisan vote of 59 to 9. Earlier this week, the State Senate also approved this bill with a bipartisan vote of 25 to 10. Assembly Bill 30 will establish the “California Racial Mascots Act,” phasing out the use of the term “Redskins” as a school or athletic team name, mascot, or nickname in California public schools.

Why Won’t My Baby Sleep? Local Sleep Consultant Jo Anna Inks Helps Parents Solve Challenging Sleep Problems

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/24/2015 01:32 PM
Murphys, CA...This is a question I often asked my first son when he was an infant. I asked it in a sweet voice, I asked it in a pleading voice, I asked it in an angry voice, but no matter how many times I asked, he never gave me the answer. I can remember the night— and some of you will know exactly what I’m talking about— when I felt like I could not take it anymore. My son just would not stay asleep and I had hit rock bottom, exhausted from waking up multiple times every night and having to soothe him back to sleep. My husband found me at 3:00 in the morning sobbing away in our living room.

Frogtown Becomes Noah's Ark For People, Pets & Farm Animals

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/13/2015 04:58 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Local Businesses, Ranchers, FFA, 4H, Animal Services, concerned citizens and more have turned Frogtown's arena and animal areas into a safe haven for those fleeing the fire whether they are on 4 legs or two. Hay, pet food & supplies, toys for kids, toiletries, personal supplies, hot meals, welcome smiles and helping hands abound. This is small town, rural America at it's best. When bad things happen there is no better place to be than communities like ours where people are still used to jumping into action when there is a need. Thank you to all of you helping out and donating. Not only are you meeting real needs you are providing great examples for everyone around you!!
