San Andreas, CA...The “Teens 4 Tech” program, sponsored by Calaveras Co. Adult Tutoring, begins its fourth year on September 8th. Open sessions are held on Tuesday afternoons 3:45 to 4:45 at the San Andreas Library. So, for those who feel like your ‘Smart Phone’ is outsmarting you, or you keep hitting the escape button on your laptop only to remain in “Doesnotcompute Land”, come visit these savvy young dynamos for help.

San Andreas, CA...September 1, 2015- Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 17th Annual Fall Health Fair on Saturday, September 26th from 7am to noon on the Hospital Campus in San Andreas. “Hosting our community health fairs allows us to express our gratitude to those that entrust us with their health care needs,” said Craig Marks, Hospital President. “Our health fairs benefit individuals that are underserved or working towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our providers and staff are here to share preventative care and health maintenance tips. Providing affordable health care services is one way we serve our community. This is a joint effort with many other entities working together, especially the Health Care District that helps fund this initiative, to ensure that Calaveras County residents can thrive in a healthy community.”

Arnold, CA...The Vallecito Union School District will hold a Public Hearing at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in the library at Hazel Fischer School located at 1605 Blagen Road, Arnold, CA. This Public Hearing will be held to determine whether each student in each school will have sufficient textbooks and instructional materials in each subject consistent with the content and cycles of the state curriculum frameworks during the 2015/16 fiscal year.

The campus will be open to parents beginning at 5:45 p.m. Parents should plan to arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. in order to pick up their student’s schedule. The principal’s welcome will begin at 6:10 p.m. in the Lower Gym. Murphys, CA...The Vineyard Tour is an educational program and is open to the public. Only once a year do we have the opportunity to visit this many of the most interesting vineyards in Calaveras County and to have commentary from UC experts at each stop. Vineyard managers and winemakers working with these sites will discuss the challenges and successes while we sip the proprietary wines. The event concludes with the annual "Growers Barbecue" where we discuss the day’s events over locally grown and prepared food and more Calaveras wines.

Retired School Superintendent Is New Mind Matters Executive Director |

Murphys, CA...Wayne Brown, who retired as the Superintendent of the Stanislaus Union School District, has been chosen to be the first full time Executive Director of Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that is noted for its innovative treatment of autism and similar disorders. “As an educator, I am very much aware of the work being done by Mind Matters and how it can improve the lives of young people and their families,” says Brown. “I am pleased to have been chosen to lead the organization, to help it extend its programs and to secure the necessary funds to make that possible. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Thompson and his staff and interacting with the communities they serve.”
