Tuolumne County Sherriff's Posse Motherlode Round Up Kickoff

Jamestown, CA... The Tuolumne County Sherriff's Posse has been sponsoring the Motherlode Round Up Queen's Contest for 37 years and the kickoff for 2014 was Sunday evening where the public was introduced to the six Queen Contestants for 2014. On hand for the kickoff were many past Queens as well a great crowd. The contestants will be selling both raffle and rodeo tickets ($15) and will be appearing in several events between now and May 2014. The raffle is for a $1000 cash prize. Below is a crowd photo from the event. We will be introducing the Queen Contestants with their biographies and pictures on thePineTree.net over the next few days/weeks as the contestants make them available. Each contestant is responsible for selling 200 tickets and they will be looking for additional sponsors as well. Expect to see them out and about their communities as they attempt to meet their goals. The listing of event dates will appear here soon.

Karaoke National Championships Held at Black Oak Casino This Last Weekend

Tuolumne City, CA... The Karaoke National Championships were held over the weekend at Black Oak Casino. Kim Evans, of Arnold, won the Nationals and will be going to Finland in November. Kim will be the only female, along with the male national winner, who will be representing the U.S. in the Karaoke World Championships....

Cross Country Run to Find a Cure for Batten Disease

Vallecito, CA... Noah Coughlan is running for the cure for Batten Disease, a rare brain disease. He's running from San Francisco to Boston. Noah's personal connection to this disease is found in his past. Noah knows two sisters with the rare Batten Disease, one of whom passed within the past year. Several people with Batten Disease live in Utah where Noah expects to get some of the involved families on local TV stations to help heighten the awareness of this horrible and rare disease. He has already been on KTVU Channel 2 and interviewed by several hard copy newspapers. You may have seen him today on Hwy 4 heading up the hill. Red Cross Urges Safety this Summer as Temperatures Rise

Sacramento, CA... Summer is here, bringing with it dangerous excessive heat. The American Red Cross has steps people can follow to stay safe as the temperatures soar.
“Excessive heat can be deadly; it has caused more deaths in recent years than all other weather events,” said Kathleen Weis, Interim CEO for the Red Cross Capital Region Chapter. “We want everyone to stay safe during the hot weather and have some reminders for them to follow when the weather is hot and humid.”

The Coyote Creek Grill is Closed

The owners of Coyote Creek Grill wish to express their thanks for the wonderful year they've had and to all the residents of Calaveras County who came by and supported a budding restaurant. The owners have had to close the Coyote Creek Grill due to personal reasons including the need to spend more time with their families.

This evening's wonderful Memorial Day celebration by the Calaveras Community Band was punctuated by a flag ceremony by Cub Scout pack 343 from Murphys with master of the flag ceremony Soren, a Webelo Scout.
