Sacramento, CA...Halloween is the celebration of all things scary. For children, this means dressing up as their favorite characters and enjoying tricks and treats. For adults, the celebration often involves alcohol. Unfortunately, Halloween is also known for having the highest number of child-pedestrian deaths all year and ranks among the worst for holiday-related DUI crashes and deaths. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) are providing tips to trick-or-treaters, parents, and partygoers to keep everyone safe this Halloween.

That means treating them fairly and equitably, honoring their service and sacrifice, and keeping our word. Today, in keeping with that obligation, I am ordering a series of steps to ensure fair treatment for thousands of California National Guard soldiers who may have received incentive bonuses and tuition assistance improperly as a result of errors and in some cases criminal behavior by members of the California National Guard.

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center hosted the fourth annual Ladies Night Out for Breast Health Awareness in downtown Sonora on October 6, 2016. Approximately 400 participants enjoyed a fun and educational evening in downtown Sonora, with 30 businesses participating in the passport book and offering special deals and giveaways. Sonora Regional Medical Center staffed nurses and other employees at each of the 30 businesses to answer questions about breast health with topics ranging from prevention and screening to cancer treatments and outcomes.

23 Arrested In Connection With Illegal Marijuana Grows Near West Point |

West Point, CA...On 10-25-16 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on 3 addresses near West Point California for illegal cultivation of marijuana. A total of 7700 pounds (over 3 tons) of marijuana and other substances were seized and destroyed or taken as evidence. Investigators located approximately 1000-1500 pounds of marijuana that was processed, dried and ready for use, transportation or sales. Several hundred pounds were discovered packaged to be shipped or transported elsewhere. A total of 1048 plants were eradicated. Just under $13,000 in cash was seized as evidence.

Murphys, CA...On 24 October 2016, an employee of a café in Murphys called the Sonora Police Department, after observing Louis Page inside the café. Page was wanted for questioning regarding a felony hit and run accident, which occurred on 18 October 2016, at the intersection of N. Washington and Elkin Streets, sending a pedestrian to the hospital with major injuries.

Angels Camp, CA...Jeff Johnson has been part of Friends of the Calaveras County Fair since its inception in 2009. He served both as the board's president, vice president and Junior Livestock Committee representative. He was instrumental in bringing back the historic Whiskerino Dinner Dance, construction of the Ranch house, water line projects and much more. Jeff has a deep love for the Fair. His passion has been evident in his accomplishments on behalf of the Fairgrounds.
