Its earliest roots date back to 1893, held that year in Copperopolis. The fair eventually found a permanent home outside of Angels Camp. Jamestown, CA...On February 27, 2017 at approximately 7:15 pm, CHP dispatch received a call of a subject that was seen staggering before getting into a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup and appeared under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The reporting witness advised that the subject, later identified as 60 year old Jamestown resident Timothy Brown, kept yelling at the witness, “I will shoot you.” It was unknown if Brown was armed because no weapon was seen. The pickup traveled southbound on Main Street from Willow Street and hit a parked black Chevrolet Envoy. Brown continued southbound until his pickup became disabled near Main Street and Donovan Street. Brown was then seen fleeing on foot and crossing State Route 108.

Sonora,CA...There are still tickets available for the K-9 Fundraiser taking place on April 1st. The K-9 Dinner will be held at Black Oak Casino and Resort. This year’s dinner will be fully catered by Black Oak Casino, with fantastic raffle prizes, silent and live auctions; including some amazing prizes such as a 5 night stay in the resort city of Punta Mita, Mexico. Winners of the vacation getaway will stay in one of the resorts penthouse suites. Several firearms will also be auctioned off during the evening, along with much, much more!

The Odd Fellows of LaFayette Historical Lodge #65 remind you of our monthly breakfast, always on the second Sunday at the IOOF Hall in downtown La Grange. Sunday March 12th is the date this month. Breakfast hours are 8 to 11 am, with a menu of biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham & cheese omelets and French toast. Complimentary coffee and orange juice round out the meal, all for $6. Angels Camp Student Takes Top VFW Scholarship Prize |

Kansas City, MO...The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliary proudly announce Savannah Wittman, a senior at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, Calif., was named first-place national winner and recipient of the $30,000 T.C. Selman Memorial Scholarship award in the 2016-17 Voice of Democracy Scholarship program. The announcement was made last night during the “Parade of Winners” at the 2017 VFW Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. VFW Post 12118 and its Auxiliary in Copperopolis, Calif., sponsored Savannah.

After a grueling appointment process they serve at the pleasure of the Governor. It is an unpaid position. They are ultimately responsible for every aspect of the District including the grounds, financial health, policy formation, the annual fair and much more.
