VA Rural Health Outreach |

Valley Springs, CA...The VA Rural Outreach is scheduled for this coming weekend at the Veterans Hall in Valley Springs. It is free for ALL Veterans in Calaveras County. The VA is bringing a mobile unit with two exam rooms, two medical providers, a health tecnichian, and an enrollment specialist. We will also have two Calaveras County Veterans Service Officers available to assist with benefits and claims and other service providers available...

White House Honors Calaveras Youths |

San Andreas, CA – Two Calaveras youths were honored by the White House, receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award. The Calaveras High School students, Brianna Gill and Guillermo Hernandez, have been members of the Explorer program with the San Andreas office of the California Highway Patrol for the past 2 years. The award is based on the hours of volunteer service. Brianna received the Silver Award while Guillermo received the Bronze Award. Lieutenant Dewayne Lewis presented the awards to the Explorers during a training session at the CHP office. Congratulations Brianna and Guillermo.

San Andreas, CA, April 6, 2015- Mark Twain Medical Center, (MTMC) along with other national, state and community organizations, are leading a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). As a participating organization, MTMC is providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with California state laws. Beginning Saturday April 11th through Sunday April 19th, MTMC is welcoming the public throughout the day to the main lobby and the Out Patient Lab with free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms....

Newbys Seek To Represent Themselves In Attempted Murder Case |

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday the father & son allegedly bat wielding duo of Jeffrey Scott Newby (43 years old) & Mike Patrick Newby (18 years old) were arraigned on their charges in Judge Healy's courtroom. The defendants at times seemed almost unaware of the seriousness of the charges facing them. They refused council and sought to represent themselves in their upcoming attempted murder trial. Judge Healy had to eventually remove the father from the courtroom with his son so the father couldn't influence the son in a manner detrimental to his legal rights. After the father was removed the son still held to the belief that he should represent himself in court even after Judge Healy counseling him otherwise... |
